  1. 1. Molecular Monitoring of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Treated with Imatinib Mesylate

    Author : Yuan Wei; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : CML; imatinib; BCR-ABL; apoptosis; mutation; T-lymphocyte;

    Abstract : The BCR-ABL fusion gene product is a constitutively activated tyrosine kinase, which is fundamental in the pathogenesis of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Imatinib mesylate (imatinib, Glivec® or Gleevec®), a small molecule inhibitor of the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase, is now the first-line treatment for all newly diagnosed chronic phase CML patients. 2. 2. Aspects on long-term treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors in Chronic myeloid leukemia

    Author : Sofia Jönsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Chronic myeloid leukemia; tyrosine kinase inhibitor; imatinib; molecular response; adherence; mesechymal stem cells; osteoblast differentiation; dasatinib;

    Abstract : Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is caused by the tyrosine kinase activity of the oncoprotein BCR-ABL. The introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) targeting BCR-ABL has profoundly changed the prognosis of CML. Currently, there are three TKIs approved for treatment of CML, imatinib, nilotinib and dasatinib. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours. On diagnosis and treatment

    Author : Per Bümming; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : adjuvant; epidemiology; GIST; imatinib; KIT; mutation; neoadjuvant; neuroendocrine phenotype; PET; prognosis; surgery; vesicle proteins;

    Abstract : Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) are thought to originate from the interstitial cells of Cajal, which show many properties in common with neurons of the gastrointestinal tract. High-risk GIST has a very poor prognosis and tumour recurrence is common after intentionally curative surgery. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pharmaceutical Protection of Beta-Cells in Diabetes : Using Tyrosine Kinase Inhibition and NOX4 Inhibitors

    Author : Andris Elksnis; Per-Ola Carlsson; Nils Welsh; Sergiu-Bogdan Catrina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes mellitus; Tyrosine kinase inhibitors; Imatinib; AMPK; Oxidative stress; NADPH-oxidase; NOX; NOX4; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a complex and heterogenous disease, with loss of beta-cell function and mass being a characteristic of not only type 1 diabetes (T1D), but also type 2 diabetes (T2D). In T1D, inappropriate inflammatory signaling is thought to participate in the autoimmune suppression and destruction of beta-cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Clinical and Experimental Studies in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia : Studies of Treatment Outcome, In Vitro Cellular Drug Resistance and Gene Expression

    Author : Ulla Olsson-Strömberg; Bengt Simonsson; Elin Lindhagen; Gisela Barbany; Johan Richter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; chronic myeloid leukemia; adult; stem cell transplantation; mobilization of Ph-negative stem cells; in vitro assay; imatinib; gene expression; Medicin;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies described in the thesis were to investigate different treatment strategies in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. Furthermore, activity of imatinib was investigated by in vitro cytotoxicity assay, and the gene expression pattern in interferon treated patients. READ MORE
