  1. 11. Immunomodulation during human pregnancy : placental exosomes as vehicles of immune suppression

    Author : Ann-Christin Stenqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Maria Jenmalm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exosomes; microvesicles; pregnancy; placenta; syncytiotrophoblast; immune privilege; apoptosis; cytotoxicity; T regulatory cells; NKG2D; MICA B; FasL; TRAIL; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : The mammalian pregnancy comprises a challenge to the maternal immune system since the fetus is semi-allogeneic and could thus be rejected. Pregnancy success is associated with the placenta that is not only essential for oxygen supply, nourishment and pregnancy hormones but also plays a role in the protection of the fetus against maternal immunologic attack. 2. 12. The role and mechanism of ubiquitin system in innate immune regulation

    Author : Swarupa Panda; Nelson O. Gekara; Fredrik Elgh; Anna Överby; Geert van Loo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; The ubiquitin system; Deubiquitinase; MYSM1; Innate immune regulation Toll-like receptor; RIG-l like receptors; Cytoplasmic DNA receptors; NOD-like receptors; Francisella tularensis; Immune subversion; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) include the cell surface or endosomal membrane localized Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the cytoplasmic PRRs such as RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and cytoplasmic DNA receptors (CDRs). Triggering of PRRs culminates in the transcriptional induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons (IFNs) that coordinate protection against pathogens but require tight control to avert inflammatory diseases. 3. 13. Innate immune mechanisms of atherosclerosis

    Author : Xintong Jiang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is a multi-factorial immune mediated disease in arterial wall characterized by lipid driven inflammation through activation of the immune system. Chronic vascular inflammation is an important component that modulates atherosclerosis evolution and its complications. READ MORE

  4. 14. Biomarkers for Peripartum Depression : Focusing on aspects of the immune system and the metabolome

    Author : Emma Bränn; Alkistis Skalkidou; Emma Fransson; Fotios Papadopoulos; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Daniel Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Peripartum depression; Immune system; Metabolome; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Peripartum depression is a common, multifactorial, and potentially devastating disease among new mothers. A biological marker for peripartum depression would facilitate early detection, better understanding of the pathophysiology, and identification of targets for treatment. READ MORE

  5. 15. On the etiology and pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus with special reference to environmental factors

    Author : Anders Bengtsson; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Skeleton; Risk factors; Human parvovirus B19; Immune complex; Disease activity; Interferon-alpha; SLE; Retrovirus;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease in which environmental factors interact with genetic factors in the development of the disease process and evolution of clinical manifestations. In this thesis both exogenous factors and host factors were investigated, as well as important immunopathological aspects including involvement of immune complex (IC), the complement system and interferon-alpha (IFN-α).
