  1. 6. Affibody ligands in immunotechnology applications

    Author : Jenny Rönnmark; KTH; []
    Keywords : phage display; combinatorial; affinity; IgA ligand; immunohistochemistry; affibody-fusions;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development and use ofnon-immunoglobulin affinity proteins denoted affibodies asalternatives to antibodies in different immunotechnologyapplications. A 58 aa IgG Fc binding three-helix bundle domainZ, derived from staphylococcal protein A has been used asframework for library constructions, in which the face of themolecule involved in the native binding activity has beenengineered by combinatorial protein engineering. 2. 7. Islet xenotransplantation : An immunological study in the pig-to-mouse model

    Author : Birgitta Benda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; xenotransplantation; porcine; islet; in vivo; knock-out mouse; immunohistochemistry; CsA; MDL 201; 449A; Ig; FcR; IL-6; perforin; granzyme B; macrophage; eosinophilic granulocyte; T cell; TCR; IFN- g; TNF- a; IL-2; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : Successful clinical xenotransplantation, i.e., transplantation between species, would eliminate the shortage of donor organs. In order to study the acute cellular rejection reaction following discordant xenogeneic transplantation, an experimental pig-to- mouse islet xenotransplantation model was established. READ MORE

  3. 8. A valuable pair - candidate biomarkers RBM3 and PODXL in urothelial bladder cancer

    Author : Karolina Granfelt Boman; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : urothelial bladder cancer; RBM3; PODXL; Prognostic biomarker; Predictive biomarker; immunohistochemistry; tissue microarray TMA ;

    Abstract : Abstract: Bladder cancer is a heterogenous disease, ranging from minimally invasive, low-grade tumours with lowrecurrence rates and mortality on one end of the spectrum, and muscle invasive, high-grade disease prone torecurrence, progression and death at the other end.The aim of this thesis was to investigate the expression, clinicopathological correlates and prognostic significanceof the candidate biomarkers podocalyxin-like protein (PODXL, papers II and III) and RNA-binding motif protein 3(RBM3, papers I, III and IV) in urothelial bladder cancer (UBC). 4. 9. Quantitative immunochemistry in tissue sections : With special reference to urinary bladder carcinoma

    Author : Kenneth Wester; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Urinary bladder carcinoma; immunohistochemistry; quantification; image analysis; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Urinary bladder carcinoma affects about 2 000 people in Sweden every year. It is a heterogeneous disease and for adequate treatment decisions, prognostic tools are needed. Many of these are based on immunohistochemistry (MC) and hampered by poorly reproducible methodologies and subjective evaluations. READ MORE

  5. 10. Neuroprotection and neurogenesis after experimental stroke

    Author : Andreas Arvidsson; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stereology; rat; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; BrdU; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; subventricular zone; striatum; dentate gyrus; neuronal replacement; neuronal survival; Focal cerebral ischemia; glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor;

    Abstract : In this thesis, two potential endogenous mechanisms for neuronal survival and repair have been investigated in a rat model of stroke, middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO): signaling of the GDNF family of neurotrophic factors, and neurogenesis from endogenous progenitor cells. As determined by in situ hybridization for GDNF family ligand and receptor genes, MCAO caused widespread upregulation of both components of the functional GDNF receptor, c-Ret and GFRalpha1, indicating that GDNF may be a survival signal in stroke.
