  1. 11. Immunotherapy and COX-2 inhibition against malignant brain tumors

    Author : Sofia Eberstål; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Malignant brain tumors; immunotherapy; IFN-γ; GM-CSF; COX-2 inhibition;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor in the central nervous system and the prognosis is very poor despite conventional therapies including surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy. Peripheral vaccination with irradiated tumor cells represent a novel therapy that targets both dividing and non-dividing tumor cells and minimizes the risk of therapy resistance by presenting multiple tumor antigens. 2. 12. Immunotherapy against malignant brain tumors - of mice and men

    Author : Karin Enell Smith; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tumor Immunology; Immunotherapy; Glioma; Mouse;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the most abundant and most aggressive primary brain tumor in adults. Due to the infiltrative growth of the tumor, surgery will never be radical. Radiation and chemotherapy only marginally improve the poor prognosis due to the ability of the GBM to develop resistance towards these treatments. READ MORE

  3. 13. Combined chemotherapy and immunotherapy against experimental malignant brain tumors

    Author : Sara Fritzell; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cisplatin; Glioma; GM-CSF; IFN-gamma; IL-7; Immunotherapy; Intratumoral chemotherapy; Temozolomide;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive primary malignant brain tumor in adults. Despite standard treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and temozolomide (TMZ)-based chemotherapy, the prognosis for GBM patients is dismal, and there is a need for novel treatments. READ MORE

  4. 14. Antibody-based immunotherapy of cancer : From optimization to novel approaches

    Author : Luuk van Hooren; Anna Dimberg; Eugene C. Butcher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer immunotherapy; CD40; CTLA-4; PD-1; Gal-1; tertiary lymphoid structures;

    Abstract : Antibody immunotherapy is a successful therapeutic approach to treat cancer. The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate the mechanisms of antibody-based immunotherapies and the role of the tumor microenvironment in mediating the anti-tumor immune response, in order to aid the development of improved immunotherapies for cancer patients. 5. 15. Adenovirus-mediated CD40 Ligand Immunotherapy of Prostate and Bladder Cancer

    Author : Helena Dzojic; Magnus Essand; Thomas H Tötterman; Aristides Eliopoulos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; immunotherapy; gene therapy; prostate cancer; bladder cancer; adenoviral vector; CD40 ligand; promoter; PPT; TSTA; depsipeptide FK228; TRAMP-C2; Medicin;

    Abstract : Cancer immunotherapy aims at reversing the immunosuppressive tumor environment and enhancing anti-tumor immunity. This thesis comprises studies on murine models for prostate (TRAMP-C2) and bladder (MB49) cancer with the aim to explore if the introduction of an adenoviral vector expressing CD40 ligand (AdCD40L) can induce anti-tumor immune responses.
