1. Pathogenetic studies of adjuvant-induced arthritis
Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disabling chronic inflammatory disease, presumably autoimmune, that progressively destroys peripheral joints. The etiopathogenesis remains largely unknown, and an understanding of disease mechanisms and identification of genes is rendered difficult due to the multifactorial influence on RA. READ MORE

2. Immunologic and genetic studies of rat adjuvant-induced arthritis
Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory joint disease with a multifactorial and largely unknown etiology. It is influenced by both environmental and genetic factors, and understanding of disease mechanisms and identification of disease-causing genes is hampered by the complex and polygenic nature of the disease. 3. Studies on immunological mechanisms of induced arthritis in the rat
Abstract : Experimental arthritis induced with adjuvants shares many features with the human autoimmune disorder rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The use of arthritis models is therefore a relevant approach in the search for pathogenic mechanisms in human disease. READ MORE

4. Production of polyclonal antibodies in rabbits and chickens immunised with human immunoglobulin G : A study of the utility of egg yolk antibody production as a substitute for rabbit serum antibody production
Abstract : The utility of chicken egg yolk antibodies as an alternative to rabbit antisera was studied by comparing antibody and avidity development in immunised animals (15 rabbits and 30 chickens) during a one-year immunisation scheme. Human IgG was used as the model antigen and the efficacy of three adjuvants, Freund's Complete Adjuvant, Freund's Incomplete Adjuvant and Hunter's TiterMax, was compared. READ MORE

5. Pathogenesis of arthritis in rats : genetic factors and inducing molecules
Abstract : Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic joint disease for which there is presently no cure, possibly because rational design of therapy is hindered by lack of knowledge of disease mechanisms (pathogenesis), and disease causing genetic and inducing factors (etiology). In this thesis, etiopathogenetic clues were sought in experimental arthritis, induced in different rat strains using both specific and nonspecific triggers of the immune system, i. READ MORE
