  1. 1. Additively Manufactured Inconel 718 : Microstructures and Mechanical Properties

    Author : Dunyong Deng; Johan Moverare; Ru Lin Peng; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, has gained significant interest in aerospace, energy, automotive and medical industries due to its capabilities of manufacturing components that are either prohibitively costly or impossible to manufacture by conventional processes. Among the various additive manufacturing processes for metallic components, electron beam melting (EBM) and selective laser melting (SLM) are two of the most widely used powder bed based processes, and have shown great potential for manufacturing high-end critical components, such as turbine blades and customized medical implants. 2. 2. Inconel 718 and Hydrogen

    Author : Niklas Ehrlin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; IN718 Hydrogen Embrittlement Cathodic Charging;

    Abstract : The nickel based superalloy IN718 is known to be sensitive to hydrogen, causing degradation of its mechanical properties. The degrading mechanism commonly proposed is based on an increased mobility and density of dislocations, caused by the dissolved hydrogen. This results in a decreased yield stress and a premature fracture. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thermo-mechanical Fatigue Crack Propagation in Inconel 718

    Author : Lars Jacobsson; Materialteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; crack closure; image analysis; potential drop; in-situ scanning elecron microscopy; crack propagation experiments; Thermo-mechanical fatigue; Inconel 718;

    Abstract : Thermo-mechanical fatigue crack propagation in Inconel 718 has been studied with different methods. In-situ observations with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) were performed, the crack propagation process was followed cycle by cycle and the influences from load, temperature, and microstructure on the crack growth were analyzed. 4. 4. Adhesion strength of HVOF sprayed Inconel 718 coatings

    Author : Christophe Lyphout; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adhesion Strength; Residual Stress; Inconel 718; Thermal spray; Finite Element Method; HVOF; High Velocity Oxy-Fuel;

    Abstract : Thermal spray technology in general is nowadays recognized as an industrial process, mature enough to apply coatings on different substrate materials that protect parts against wear, corrosion, heat, or combinations of these. The quality demands on coating homogeneity and adhesion strength are, nowhere more than in the automotive and aeronautic industries, continuously increasing. READ MORE

  5. 5. Machinability variations in Alloy 718 —With focus on machining of turbine components

    Author : Pajazit Avdovic; Industriell Produktion; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; polar diagram; flank wear; ceramic tool; variation in material; tool wear; tool life; machinability; Inconel; Alloy 718; Machining; notch wear;

    Abstract : In gas turbine engine, nickel base alloy, such as Alloy 718, accounts for almost half of the total material requirement. Nickel-base superalloys are used for gas turbine components mainly because of their outstanding strength and resistance to oxidation at high temperatures (> 550°C). READ MORE
