11. Chemical and electronic structure of electroluminescent materials and interfaces in polymer-LEDs
Abstract : Following the discovery that conjugated polymers can be used as the emitting layer in light emitting devices, extensive studies on these materials have been carried out. In a few years, due to the development of new materials and an increasing knowledge of the underlying chemistry and physics, the performance has improved a lot. READ MORE

12. Electrodes and Electrokinetic Systems for Biotechnological Applications
Abstract : Research in bioelectronics studies biological systems and materials in combination with electronic interfaces for the development of devices, e.g., for medical applications, drug and toxicity tests, and biotechnology in general. Neural implants and pacemakers are examples of products developed from this area of research. READ MORE

13. Chemical and electronic structure of interfaces in organic-based devices
Abstract : This thesis deals with some of the main physical and chemical phenomena involving organic semiconductors in (opto )electronic devices: (i) the fabrication and characteristics of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), (ii) the chemistry occurring at metal-polymer and polymer-metal interfaces, (iii) the nature of electronic levels induced upon doping in molecular organic semiconductors. In the first paper, fluorine tin oxide (FTO) electrodes have been studied as an alternative to indium tin oxide (ITO) for hole-injection in polymer-based light emitting devices. 14. Electronic paper in color by electrochromic materials and plasmonics
Abstract : The most common display today is emissive. It produces its own light and emits it to the viewer's eye. A reflective display, also known as electronic paper, uses ambient light and reflects it to the viewer, just like a newspaper. READ MORE

15. Micro- and Nano-structured Metal Films for Optoelectronic Devices
Abstract : Two types of micro and nanostructures of metal-dielectric films have been explored with the intention of improving optoelectronic devices. The first part of the thesis concerns the design, fabrication and characterization of a metallic photonic crystal (mPhC). READ MORE
