  1. 1. Pancreatic Cancer - Early Detection, Prognostic Factors, and Treatment

    Author : Daniel Ansari; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; artificial neural networks; apicidin; centralization; early detection; epigenetics; high definition mass spectrometry; MUC4; pancreatic cancer; pancreaticoduodenectomy; prognostic factors; xenograft model; treatment;

    Abstract : Background: Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death. Only about 6% of patients are alive 5 years after diagnosis. One reason for this low survival rate is that most patients are diagnosed at a late stage, when the tumor has spread to surrounding tissues or distant organs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Individualized treatment and control of bacterial infections

    Author : Hanna Woksepp; Thomas Schön; Anders Johansson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; therapeutic drug monitoring; intensive care unit; β-lactam antibiotics; antimicrobial drug resistance; molecular typing; whole-genome sequencing; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Infectious diseases cause substantial morbidity and mortality, exacerbated by increasing antibiotic resistance. In critically ill patients, recent studies indicate a substantial variability in β-lactam antibiotic levels when standardized dosing is applied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards Individualized Drug Dosage : General Methods and Case Studies

    Author : Martin Fransson; Peter Fritzson; Lena Friberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; drug dosage; population pharmacokinetics; biochemical modelling; identifiability; parameter estimation; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Abstract : Progress in individualized drug treatment is of increasing importance, promising to avoid much human suffering and reducing medical treatment costs for society. The strategy is to maximize the therapeutic effects and minimize the negative side effects of a drug on individual or group basis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Treating depression and its comorbidity : From individualized Internet-delivered cognitive behavior therapy to affect-focused psychodynamic psychotherapy

    Abstract : The overarching goal of this thesis has been to enhance Internet-delivered psychological treatments for depression and its comorbidity. To this end, three randomized controlled trials (Study II, III and IV) with a total of 313 participants were conducted. READ MORE

  5. 5. Metabolic responsiveness to growth hormone in children

    Author : Ralph Decker; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Individualized treatment; Growth hormone; Hormonal responsiveness; Metabolic outcome; Prediction model; Body composition; Insulin sensitivity; Leptin; Proteomics SELDI; Apolipoproteins; Thresholds of growth hormone effects; Protein patterns;

    Abstract : Metabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) therapy in short children have not been clearly established owing to the previous lack of controlled trials studying the metabolic outcome in response to different GH doses despite the known effects of GH on insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and body composition. It has previously been shown that individualized GH doses during catch-up growth significantly reduce the proportion of unexpectedly good and poor responders around a predefined individual growth target in short prepubertal children.
