  1. 11. Ultrafine Particles in the Indoor Environment: Field and Laboratory Measurements

    Author : Uve Matson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; airborne particles; aerosols; indoor air; outdoor air; air quality;

    Abstract : Clean air is one of the most fundamental human needs since poor air quality affects the health and the environment. It has been shown that people spend on average over 85 % of their time at work, home, school etc. Therefore, human exposure to air pollution may occur mostly indoors. Despite this fact, outdoor air pollution is also important. READ MORE

  2. 12. Brominated flame retardants and perfluoroalkyl acids in Swedish indoor microenvironments : Implications for human exposure

    Author : Justina Björklund; Cynthia de Wit; Thomas Webster; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDEs; HBCD; PFOS; PFOA; indoor air; indoor dust; breast milk; human exposure; emission; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as brominated flame retardants (BFRs, specifically polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD)) and perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs, specifically perfluoroalkane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)). They are used in consumer products found in cars, offices, homes and day care centers. READ MORE

  3. 13. Indoor Navigation for Mobile Robots : Control and Representations

    Author : Philipp Althaus; KTH; []
    Keywords : mobile robots; robot navigation; indoor navigation; behaviour based robotics; hybrid deliberative systems; dynamical systems approach; topological maps; symbol anchoring; autonomous mapping; human-robot interaction;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with various aspects of indoor navigationfor mobile robots. For a system that moves around in ahousehold or office environment,two major problems must betackled. First, an appropriate control scheme has to bedesigned in order to navigate the platform. Second, the form ofrepresentations of the environment must be chosen. READ MORE

  4. 14. Assessment of human exposure to per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFCs) : exposure through food, drinking water, house dust and indoor air

    Author : Ingrid Ericson Jogsten; Gunilla Lindström; Bert van Bavel; Stuart Harrad; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; human exposure; per- and polyfluorinated compunds PFCs ; dietary intake; drinking water; indoor environment; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are detected in humans worldwide but all sources of human exposure have not been fully characterized. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the contributions from food, water, air and dust as sources for human PFC exposure in the general population. READ MORE

  5. 15. Fungal DNA, Mould, Dampness and Allergens in Schools and Day Care Centers and Respiratory Health

    Author : Guihong Cai; Dan Norbäck; Christer Janson; Nils Åberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Day care centers; Quantitative PCR; Fungal DNA; Allergens; Indoor environment; Building dampness; Bacteria; Mycotoxins; Respiratory symptoms; Asthma; School environment; Viable moulds; School children; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; Arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Day care centers and schools are important environments for children, but few epidemiological studies exist from these environments. Mould, dampness, fungal DNA and allergens levels in these environments and respiratory health effects in school children were investigated in this thesis. READ MORE
