  1. 1. Forensic taphonomy in an indoor setting : Implications for estimation of the post-mortem interval

    Author : Ann-Sofie Ceciliason; Ingemar Thiblin; Håkan Sandler; M. Gunnar Andersson; Anders Lindström; Niels Lynnerup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Forensic taphonomy; Indoor setting; Post-mortem interval estimation; Hepatic decomposition score; Total body score; microbial neoformation; Rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine if and how taphonomic data can be used to expand our knowledge concerning the decompositional process in an indoor setting, as well as adapting scoring-based methods for quantification of human decomposition, to increase the precision of post-mortem interval (PMI) estimates.In the first paper, the established methods of Total Body Score (TBS) and Accumulated Degree-Days (ADD) were investigated in an indoor setting, with results indicating a fairly low precision. 2. 2. Influence of building envelope on indoor air quality: Field measurements, analysis, and method development related to indoor odors

    Author : Fredrik Domhagen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; material emissions; VOC; odor; ventilation; indoor air quality;

    Abstract : The ventilation system should provide occupants with fresh air while removing excess pollutants from the building. However, increasing ventilation may inadvertently draw more pollutants into the occupant area or prove ineffective in altering emission rates from building materials and furnishings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Unresolved Controversies in Child Pneumonia in low and middle income Countries

    Author : Nick Brown; Andreas Mårtensson; Mats Målqvist; Stephen Allen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Paediatrics; pneumonia; global health; antibiotics; poverty; risk scoring; Pediatrik; Pediatrics; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Abstract : There has been a fall globally in pneumonia-related fatality in children during the Millennium Development and early Sustainable Development Goal era.However, pneumonia remains the single largest contributor to mortality with issues including antibiotic resistance, pollution, a change in infective epidemiology, equipoise over effects of adjunctive treatments and identification of sick, decompensating children. 4. 4. A Feasibility Study of Wireless Networks for 17 and 60 GHz and the Impact of Deployment Strategies on the System Performance

    Author : Matthias Unbehaun; Jens Zander; Gerald Q. Jr. Maguire; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Information technology; Informationsteknik; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the question of how to deploy the infrastructure for wireless networks carrying high data rate services. It starts from the assumption that a major part of the costs for installing wireless infrastructure is caused by antenna site acquisition, planning of network coverage and capacity as well as manpower for setting up and wiring the antenna sites. 5. 5. Experimental studies on acute health effects of acrolein and other aldehydes

    Author : Aishwarya Mishra Dwivedi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aldehydes are reactive and ubiquitous in indoor as well as outdoors and can give rise to significant health problems in humans, e.g. irritation of the eyes and toxic effects on the upper respiratory tract. This thesis focuses on the irritating and inflammatory properties of three commonly occurring aldehydes; acrolein, crotonaldehyde and hexanal. READ MORE
