  1. 21. Modelling of TMF Crack Growth in Polycrystalline Gas Turbine Alloys : Accounting for Crack Closure Effects

    Author : Jordi Loureiro-Homs; Kjell Simonsson; Robert Eriksson; Daniel Leidermark; Tomas Månsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The main objective of the work presented in this Licentiate of Engineering thesis is to investigate and model the fatigue crack propagation behaviour of the nickel-based superalloy Inconel 792, with special attention to the industrial lifing of high-temperature components. In-phase (IP) crack propagation tests have been performed at different temperatures and loading regimes, including extended hold times. READ MORE

  2. 22. Hydrogen in the European energy system - The cost dynamics and the value of time-shifting electricity generation

    Author : Simon Öberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cost; energy systems modeling; Hydrogen; gas turbine; system dynamics; time-shifting;

    Abstract : If the European Union is to become climate-neutral by Year 2050, as envisioned in the European Green Deal, the European energy system must undergo an unprecedented transformation towards eliminating its carbon emissions. For this transition, renewable electricity plays a central role, not only in replacing the current fossil-based electricity generation, but also in promoting the electrification of other sectors, such as transport and industry, sectors which are currently based on fossil fuels. Abstract : Modern gas turbines are still vulnerable to vibrations when operated at certain speeds. This unstable environment can lead to high cycle fatigue (HCF) and damage several of the components inside the turbine. READ MORE

  4. 24. Integration of a hemicelluloses extraction step into a forest biorefinery for production of green chemicals

    Author : Jonas Helmerius; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Sustainable use of forest and agricultural resources will play an important role for solving urgent global challenges such as the enhanced green house effect and increasing demand for fossil fuels. The development of processes where lignocellulosic biomass can be refined to several different end-products in the same plant, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 25. Crack growth in single crystal gas turbine blade alloys under service-like conditions

    Author : Frans Palmert; Johan Moverare; David Gustafsson; Mikael Segersäll; Philippa A.S. Reed; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Single crystal superalloy; TMF; Crack growth; Crystallographic crack growth; Aging; Hold time; Creep crack growth;

    Abstract : This work concerns the fatigue crack growth behaviour of nickel base single crystal superalloys. The main industrial application of this class of materials is in gas turbine blades, where the ability to withstand severe mechanical loading in combination with high temperatures is required.
