  1. 1. Characterization and treatment of municipal landfill leachates

    Author : Ulrika Welander; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; physical chemical treatment; biological treatment; characterization; organic substances; leachate treatment; municipal landfill; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Abstract The efficiency of different leachate treatment methods for the removal of refractory organic compounds and ammonium-nitrogen was investigated. The methods evaluated were nitrification, denitrification, adsorption onto activated carbon, precipitation by ferric chloride or aluminum sulphate and oxidation by ozone or Fenton´s reagent. 2. 2. Development and Evaluation of a Filter-Bed-Based System for Full-Scale Treatment of Industrial Landfill Leachate

    Author : Pille Kängsepp; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic and inorganic pollutants; Landfill; shredder residue; vertical-flow filter bed; pond; leachate treatment; carbon-containing ash; peat;

    Abstract : It is well known that nature offers an abundance of materials and processes that can be adapted in low-tech fashion, to fabricate systems capable of removing pollutants from wastewater. During the last decade, extensive basic and engineering research on such natural treatment systems have led to improvement of the quality of discharged wastewaters. READ MORE

  3. 3. Industrial by-products in treatment of metals from polluted water

    Author : Emma Nehrenheim; Lars Wester; Björn Klöve; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; landfill leachate; water treatment; low cost sorbent; pine bark; field study; batch experiments; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Water treatment can be carried out effectively by passive, low cost methods, as an addition or alternative to existing advanced technology. Energy and resource use can be optimized (i.e. minimized) by reusing by-products from local or regional manufacturing of timber and steel. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development and Application of Methods based on DOAS and FTIR Absorption Spectroscopy for Atmospheric Research

    Author : Bo Galle; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; open-path; nitrous oxide; DOAS; long-path absorption; landfill; methane; climate gases; ozone depletion; biogenic emissions; fugitive emissions; FTIR; ammonia;

    Abstract : Over the past decades concern about the environmental impact on our atmosphere from human activities has been constantly increasing. From the recognition of local industrial pollution in the first part of this century, over regional scale problems related to urbanisation and growth of traffic systems to global environmental problems such as climate change and stratospheric ozone depletion. 5. 5. Acid-catalyzed Liquefaction of Industrial Side-streams for Producing Wood Adhesives and Particleboard

    Author : Wen Jiang; Stergios Adamopoulos; Sheikh Ali Ahmed; Sergej Medved; Carsten Mai; Johannes Konnerth; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Bark; Catalysts; Industrial side-streams; Liquefaction; Oat husks; Optimization; Particleboards; Polyurethane; Polyhydric alcohols; Wood adhesives; Wood sawdust; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : Big quantities of residues and side-streams are generated annually from forest-based and agricultural industries all around the world and present a relatively unexplored renewable resource. Due to the absence of a regularly updated and systematic database of supply, industrial residues and side-streams usually end up in landfill disposal, are used for energy generation, or remain at the production sites.
