  1. 11. Alpha-1-microglobulin, heme-binding protein, reductase and antioxidant

    Author : Maria Allhorn; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reduction; inflammation; chronic ulcers; collagen; low density lipoproteins; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; antioxidation; heme; hemoglobin; alpha-1-microglobulin; lipocalin;

    Abstract : This thesis describes structural and functional studies of alpha-1-microglobulin (a1m), a 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein that is evolutionarily well-conserved and belongs to the lipocalin superfamily. The lipocalins are polypeptides of 160-190-amino acids that are folded into an 8-stranded beta-barrel forming a pocket with a hydrophobic interior. READ MORE

  2. 12. Proteome-wide analysis of severe bacterial infections. The battle between host and pathogen

    Author : Anahita Bakochi; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteomics; Mass Spectrometry; Systems biology; Host adaptation; Meningitis; Streptococcus pneumoniae;

    Abstract : The pathogenesis of severe infectious diseases is a complex interplay between the host and the pathogen. The development and progression of a disease encompasses a multitude of processes, which balance between host-damage and host-protection. READ MORE

  3. 13. Membrane traffic in neutrophils and neutrophil-like cells

    Author : Susanne Bauer; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; membrane traffic; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; CD177; extracellulära vätskor; PR3; phagocytosis; Streptococcus pyogenes; Infektioner; neutrophils;

    Abstract : The neutrophil constitutes the first line of defence against invading organisms and its primary function is to recognize, phagocytose and kill intruding microorganisms. In this thesis, the membrane traffic in neutrophils and neutrophil-like cells was studied. Non-opsonised S. READ MORE

  4. 14. Inflammation, kinins, and kinin receptors

    Author : Sara Bengtson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Evidence is accumulating that the pathogenesis of many diseases is triggered by inappropriate inflammatory responses. These serious complications may occur when the tightly regulated inflammatory network is out of balance and it is now clear that this can eventually cause substantial harm to own cells and tissues. 5. 15. Interactions between β-haemolytic streptococci and the human host. Heart, skin and beyond

    Author : Anna Bläckberg; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; β-haemolytic streptococci; Streptococcus dysgalactiae; Streptococcus pyogenes; Erysipelas; Infective endocarditis; Antibiotic synergy; Bacteraemia; Time to positivity;

    Abstract : Group C and G streptococci (GCS/GGS) and group A streptococci (GAS) belong to β-haemolytic streptococci (BHS). GCS/GGS can further be species determined to S. dysgalactiae, whereas S. pyogenes are GAS. READ MORE
