  1. 21. Molecular and Biological Characteristics of Stroma and Tumor Cells in Colorectal Cancer

    Author : Jingfang Gao; Xiao-Feng Sun; Richard Palmqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Carcinogenesis; genetic alterations; colorectal cancer CRC ; cysteine-histidine rich protein PINCH ; Inflammatory infiltration; Angiogenesis; lymphangiogenesis; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Carcinogenesis is a progressive process involving multiple genetic alterations in tumor cells and complex interactions in the tumor-host microenvironment. To better understand the contribution of molecular alterations in tumor cells and stromal variables to the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) and identify prognostic factors, in this study we examined the clinicopathological and biological significance of stromal variables, including particularly interesting new cysteine-histidine rich protein (PINCH), inflammatory infiltration, angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis, as well as hRAD50/hMRE11/hNBS1 proteins and hRAD50 mutation in tumor cell in CRC. 2. 22. Matrix metalloproteinases in natural killer cells. Expression of MMPs, IL-2 activation and killer cell interactions with Matrigel® and model tumours

    Author : Per Albertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protease; matrix metalloproteinase; killer cell; IL-2; Matrigel; B16 melanoma; tumour infiltration; invasion assay; zymography; Western blot; RT-PCR; light microscopy; fluorescence; electron microscopy;

    Abstract : Introduction: IL-2 activated natural killer (A-NK) cells can recognize malignant cells and exert tumouricidal activities by multiple mechanisms that require close contact with the target cells. Upon adoptive transfer, some A-NK cells accumulate in tumours by migrating from the vascular bed to a position inside the malignant tissue, forming close contacts with target cells. READ MORE

  3. 23. Assemblies of Colloidal Hydrochar Nanoparticles and their Derived Activated Carbons for CO2 Sorption

    Author : Xia Wang; Niklas Hedin; Gunnar Svensson; Oren Regev; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colloids; hydrothermal carbonization; glucose; directed assembly; reactive infiltration; templating; silicon carbide; tricopper silicide; redispersion; nanoparticles; chemical activation; activated carbons; CO2 sorption; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Carbon-rich colloids are of great fundamental and technological interest and in this thesis, I tested a range of hypotheses and studied aspects of small hydrochar-based colloids and their colloidal and material chemistry. Crude hydrochar dispersions were synthesized by hydrothermal carbonization of glucose and purified by dialysis. READ MORE

  4. 24. Manufacture of long-fibre reinforced ceramics by reaction bonding

    Author : Jesper Brandt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; weaves; slurry infiltration; fibre; aluminium oxide; reaction bonding; ceramic matrix composite; mullite; silicon nitride; alumina; CMC;

    Abstract : For several decades ceramic matrix composites has been of interest to be used as hot parts in certain high-performance gas turbine aero engines. In general, ceramic materials resist higher temperatures than superalloys. READ MORE

  5. 25. Bed filters for phosphorus removal in on-site wastewater treatment : Removal mechanisms and sustainability

    Author : David Eveborn; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Gunno Renman; Erik Kärrman; Lars Lövgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; On-site wastewater treatment; Eutrophication; Environmental impact assessment; Phosphorus removal mechanisms; Soil infiltration; Reactive bed filters; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik; Soil chemistry; Markkemi;

    Abstract : For many surface waters, phosphorus (P) leaching is a serious problem that should be minimized to prevent eutrophication. In Sweden there is a demand for physical and technical development of high-performance P removal techniques to reduce phosphorus leaching from on-site wastewater treatment systems to the Baltic Sea.
