21. Molecular and Biological Characteristics of Stroma and Tumor Cells in Colorectal Cancer
Abstract : Carcinogenesis is a progressive process involving multiple genetic alterations in tumor cells and complex interactions in the tumor-host microenvironment. To better understand the contribution of molecular alterations in tumor cells and stromal variables to the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) and identify prognostic factors, in this study we examined the clinicopathological and biological significance of stromal variables, including particularly interesting new cysteine-histidine rich protein (PINCH), inflammatory infiltration, angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis, as well as hRAD50/hMRE11/hNBS1 proteins and hRAD50 mutation in tumor cell in CRC. 22. Matrix metalloproteinases in natural killer cells. Expression of MMPs, IL-2 activation and killer cell interactions with Matrigel® and model tumours
Abstract : Introduction: IL-2 activated natural killer (A-NK) cells can recognize malignant cells and exert tumouricidal activities by multiple mechanisms that require close contact with the target cells. Upon adoptive transfer, some A-NK cells accumulate in tumours by migrating from the vascular bed to a position inside the malignant tissue, forming close contacts with target cells. READ MORE

23. Assemblies of Colloidal Hydrochar Nanoparticles and their Derived Activated Carbons for CO2 Sorption
Abstract : Carbon-rich colloids are of great fundamental and technological interest and in this thesis, I tested a range of hypotheses and studied aspects of small hydrochar-based colloids and their colloidal and material chemistry. Crude hydrochar dispersions were synthesized by hydrothermal carbonization of glucose and purified by dialysis. READ MORE

24. Manufacture of long-fibre reinforced ceramics by reaction bonding
Abstract : For several decades ceramic matrix composites has been of interest to be used as hot parts in certain high-performance gas turbine aero engines. In general, ceramic materials resist higher temperatures than superalloys. READ MORE

25. Bed filters for phosphorus removal in on-site wastewater treatment : Removal mechanisms and sustainability
Abstract : For many surface waters, phosphorus (P) leaching is a serious problem that should be minimized to prevent eutrophication. In Sweden there is a demand for physical and technical development of high-performance P removal techniques to reduce phosphorus leaching from on-site wastewater treatment systems to the Baltic Sea.
