  1. 6. Inflammasomes : defense guardians in host-microbe defence

    Author : Berolla Sahdo; Eva Särndahl; Bo Söderquist; Anna Norrby Teglund; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Innate immunity; inflammasome; leukocytes; cytokines; Staphylococcus aureus; Propionibacterium acnes; inflammation; infection; gene variants; polymorphism.; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : The inflammasomes are emerging as key regulators of the innate immune response as they response to cellular infection, tissue damage and/or stress. Activated inflammasomes provide a signalling platform for caspase-1 activation which subsequently processes the maturation of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, and in addition promotes cell death, named pyroptosis. 2. 7. Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, molecular epidemiology and host immune response

    Author : Gunlög Rasmussen; Bo Söderquist; Kristoffer Strålin; Eva Särndahl; Peter Bergman; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Staphylococcus aureus; molecular epidemiology; DNAmicroarray; bacteremia; sepsis; NLRP3; inflammasome; caspase-1; HLA-DR; HLA-DRA; CD74;

    Abstract : Staphylococcus aureus is a major pathogen responsible for a considerable disease burden worldwide. It may cause a wide array of infections, from superficial skin infections to invasive bacteremia and complications such as infective endocarditis (IE) and osteomyelitis. This thesis aimed to investigate aspects of the molecular epidemiology of S. READ MORE

  3. 8. The role of caspase-1, caspase-4, NLRP3 and IL-1RA in bladder epithelial cells infected by uropathogenic Escherichia coli

    Author : Anna Lindblad; Isak Demirel; Manisha Yadav; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary tract infection; inflammasome; uropathogenic Escherichia coli; NLRP3; caspase-1; caspase-4; IL-1RA; antimicrobial peptides; estrogen;

    Abstract : Urinary tract infection is one of the most common infections and is mostlycaused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). The inflammasomeassociatedproteins caspase-1, caspase-4 and NLRP3 are essential in the hostcell response during urinary tract infection by regulating IL-1β release. READ MORE

  4. 9. Innate immunity in diabetes mellitus. Complement components C4BP and C3 promote survival of β cells under metabolic challenges

    Author : Klaudia Kulak; Malmö Proteinkemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Complement System; Inflammasome; Islet Amyloid Polypeptide; Complement C3; C4b-binding protein C4BP ; Interleukin 1β; Autophagy-Related Protein 16 like 1; Diabetes mellitus; type 2;

    Abstract : The Complement system is a main effector mechanism of the innate immune system, acting to enhance clearance of pathogens, but also aids removal of biological debris from the body, including immunocomplexes, apoptotic/necrotic cells and protein aggregates. Complement regulators serve to prevent excessive inflammation and their interaction with the same materials targeted by the complement system results in ‘silent’ cleaning of wastes. READ MORE

  5. 10. Innate immunity of human intestinal epithelium in childhood celiac disease : influences from celiac disease associated bacteria and dietary oats

    Author : Grzegorz Pietz; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Thomas T MacDonald; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Celiac disease; dietary oats; gut microbiota; intestinal epithelium; IEL; IFN-γ; IRF1; IL-18; CXC3L1; inflammasome; permeability; Prevotella jejuni; Lachnoanaerobaculum umeaense; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Background & Aims: Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory small-bowel enteropathy caused by permanent intolerance to gliadin in wheat gluten, and related proteins in ray and barley. It is disputed whether CD patients tolerate oats. The only treatment of CD is lifelong gluten-free diet (GFD). READ MORE
