  1. 11. Immune Complex Regulated Cytokine Production in Rheumatic and Lymphoproliferative Diseases

    Author : Linda Mathsson; Johan Rönnelid; Bo Nilsson; Ann Kari Lefvert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunology; Immune complex; Cytokines; Rheumatic diseases; Lymphoproliferative diseases; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Immune complexes (ICs) are produced during normal immune responses and facilitate clearance of foreign antigens. ICs not efficiently cleared from the circulation can cause tissue damage. This might happen if ICs are formed with autoantibodies and autoantigens. READ MORE

  2. 12. Chlamydia pneumoniae in Aortic Valve Sclerosis and Thoracic Aortic Disease : Aspects of Pathogenesis and Therapy

    Author : Christina Nyström-Rosander; Kenneth Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; Chlamydia pneumoniae; aortic valve sclerosis; trace elements; thoracic aorta; antibiotics; Polymerase Chain Reaction PCR ; electron microscopy EM ; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Abstract : The obligate intracellular bacterium Chlamydia pneumoniae (Cp), a common human pathogen, has been associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The aetiology of non-rheumatic aortic valve sclerosis has, however, not been clarified. READ MORE

    Abstract : Serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is an acute phase protein that has recently gained increasing interest as a potential marker for disease and treatment monitoring. We investigated SAA and CRP levels in (a) patients with various common infectious diseases (n=98), (b) patients with pyelonephritis (n=37) versus patients with cystitis (n=32), (c) healthy individuals of varying ages (n=231), (d) very immature newborn infants with or without nosocomial infections (NIs) (n=72) and (e) patients with bacterial infections treated with cefuroxime (n=81). 4. 14. Chlamydophila pneumoniae in Cardiovascular Diseases : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Author : Marie Edvinsson; Göran Friman; Eva Hjelm; Nils-Gunnar Ilbäck; Christina Nyström-Rosander; Stefan Thelin; Björn Berdal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Communicable diseases; Chlamydophila pneumoniae; Chlamydia pneumoniae; trace elements; atherosclerosis; aortic valve stenosis; thoracic aortic aneurysm; aortic dissection; hepcidin; iron; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Chlamydophila pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae) has been suggested as a stimulator of chronic inflammation in atherosclerosis. C. pneumoniae DNA was demonstrated in aortic biopsies in 50% of patients with stable angina pectoris or acute coronary syndrome undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. READ MORE
