  1. 1. Regulatory aspects of innate immune responses

    Author : Ahmed El Marghani; Per-Erik Olsson; Peter Kjellén; Muhammad Zafarullah; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Innate immunity; TOM1L1; inflammatory responses; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Activation of innate immunity is regulated by a variety of signaling molecules within the immune cells. The present thesis was aimed to improve our understanding of innate signaling mechanism and their possible use as bio-indicators of exposure and disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inflammatory responses in minor and major surgical procedures

    Author : Annette Schmidt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammatory response; surgery; cytokines; complement split products;

    Abstract : Surgical procedures promote an inflammatory response, correlating to the extent of the procedure performed and influencing outcome after surgery. The aims of the thesis were to investigate factors modulating the inflammatory response perioperatively and to evaluate cell salvage for indications so far not accepted in clinical practice. 3. 3. Innate lymphocyte responses in inflammatory diseases

    Author : Johanna Emgård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The immune system is a highly sophisticated system that has evolved to protect the host from external and internal threats. However, under some circumstances the immune response can get dysregulated and cause inflammatory diseases. READ MORE

  4. 4. Rho-kinase signalling in systemic inflammatory responses

    Author : Jan Slotta; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Endotoxemic liver injury is characterized by an initial release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and CXC chemokines, which leads to a recruitment of leukocytes to the liver microvasculature. The mechanisms of leukocyte recruitment are well characterized and comprise on the one hand a mechanical trapping of leukocytes in sinusoids, and on the other hand a multi-step process of leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions in postsinusoidal venules. 5. 5. Studies of inflammatory responses in hantavirus infection

    Author : Kimia Maleki; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Throughout the world, orthohantaviruses cause severe, acute infections in humans. Orthohantaviruses, commonly referred to as hantaviruses, are zoonotic viruses with a single stranded RNA genome of negative sense. READ MORE
