  1. 1. Real-Time Monitoring of Healthcare Interventions in Routine Care : Effectiveness and Safety of Newly Introduced Medicines

    Author : Thomas Cars; Johan Sundström; Björn Wettermark; Martin Neovius; Til Stürmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electronic Health Records; Comparative Effectiveness Research; Comparative Safety Research; Sequential drug monitoring; propensity score; real-world data; infliximab; TNF-inhibitors; dronedarone; amiodarone; flecainide; Farmakoepidemiologi; Pharmacoepidemiology;

    Abstract : Before market authorization of new medicines, their efficacy and safety are evaluated using randomized controlled trials. While there is no doubt about the scientific value of randomized trials, they are usually conducted in selected populations with questionable generalizability to routine care. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of immunopathogenic mechanisms and treatment of chronic, inflammatory myopathies, myositis

    Author : Maryam Dastmalchi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies; polymyositis; dermatomyositis; IVIg; infliximab treatment; physical training; muscle biopsy;

    Abstract : Polymyosit (PM), dermatomyositis (DM) and sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM) are chronic inflammatory myopathies which are characterized by muscle weakness, fatigue and extra-muscular involvement. Mononuclear inflammatory cells are typically found in muscle tissue. READ MORE

  3. 3. Treatment of arthritis with tumour necrosis factor antagonists. Clinical, immunological and biochemical aspects

    Author : Meliha C Kapetanovic; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; ANA; infusion reaction; influenza vaccination; pneumococcal vaccination; COMP; TNF antagonists; spondylarthropathies; arthritis; rheumatoid arthritis;

    Abstract : Abstract The treatment of arthritis has undergone a dramatic change since biological agents targeting specific mediators of the disease process have been introduced. Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists have been shown to reduce signs and symptoms of disease and to retard the development of tissue damage in the majority of patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Health economics and its measures in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Johan Karlsson; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cost-utility analysis; Cost-of-illness; Quality of life; EuroQol 5-Dimensions; Antirheumatic agents; TNF inhibition; Outcome assessment; Disease activity; Disability; Health economics; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Abstract : Objectives: To study: (I) the impact on cost-utility analyses of applying different national EuroQol 5-Dimensions (EQ-5D) preference sets; (II and III) whether, in methotrexate-refractory, early rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the addition of infliximab results in superior health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and may be considered cost-effective, as compared to adding sulfasalazine and hydroxychloroquine; (IV) how costs relate to disability (measured by the health-assessment questionnaire, HAQ), disease activity (28-joint disease activity score, DAS28) and HRQoL (EQ-5D) in RA. Methods: In the observational SSATG register, one-year quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) accumulation of two interventions was compared according to the UK, US, or Danish EQ-5D preference sets. 5. 5. Inflammatory markers for evaluation of inflammatory bowel disease therapy

    Author : Maria Lönnkvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The lack of reliable biomarkers for predicting the clinical course or monitoring therapeutic outcome in inflammatory bowel disease is an indisputable problem. The aim of this study was to evaluate markers of inflammation during inflammatory bowel disease therapy. READ MORE
