  4. 14. Studies on oligonucleotide adducts formed from 7,8-dihydroxy-9,10-epoxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo[A]pyrene stereoisomers

    Author : Ingrid Pontén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The widespread environmental pollutant benzo[a]pyrene (BP), is formed from incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and is mutagenic and carcinogenic after metabolic activation to bay-region diol epoxides and subsequent covalent binding to DNA. The metabolic activation pathway to diol epoxides is via BP-7,8-oxide and BP-7,8-dihydrodiol to yield preferentially 7R,8S-dihydroxy-9S,lOR-epoxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo[a]py- rene [(+)-anti-BPDE] and to lesser extents, 7R,8S-dihydroxy-9R,lOS-epoxy-BP [(-)-syn-BPDE], 7S,8R- dihydroxy-9S,lOR-epoxy-BP [(+)-syn-BPDE] and 7S,8R-dihydroxy-9R,lOS-epoxy-BP [(-)-anti-BPDE]. 5. 15. Polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans : from source of emission to human exposure

    Author : Filip Bjurlid; Jessika Hagberg; Bert van Bavel; Ingrid Ericson Jogsten; Peter Haglund; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDD Fs; PCDD Fs; marine mammal; combustion; fire; human milk; occupational exposure;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs), which are ubiquitous in modern life and the environment, are the major source for polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PBDD/Fs). The knowledge about PBDD/Fs is lim-ited compared to other environmental pollutants, even though PBDD/Fs show similar toxicity as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) which are considered to be among the most toxic man-made substances.
