  1. 1. Understanding Adhesive Mixtures for Inhalation : Particle Dynamics Modelling and Segregation Experiments

    Author : Sohan Sarangi; Göran Frenning; Göran Alderborn; Kyrre Thalberg; Johannes Khinast; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inhalation; adhesive mixtures; dry powder inhaler; discrete element method; segregation; stability; modeling; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Pulmonary route has been used as a source of drug delivery to lungs for centuries. Drugformulation decides the type of inhaler devices such as pressurized metered-dose inhalers(pMDIs), nebulizers and dry powder inhalers (DPIs). READ MORE

    Abstract : Background Nanotechnology is an important and promising field that can lead to improved environment and human health and contribute to a better social and economic development. Materials in nanoscale have unique physiochemical properties which allow for completely new technical applications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Endothelial function during ischemia-reperfusion and effects of inhalation of nitric oxide

    Author : Lars Lindberg; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chemiluminescence; capnography; monitoring; inhalation; mechanical ventilation; pulmonary hypertension; nitric oxide; EDRF; endothelium-derived relaxation factor; endothelium; organ preservation; Lung; lung transplantation; electrochemical fuel cell; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Abstract : The vascular endothelium is an important regulatory organ in circulatory physiology and plays a central role in the response to acute inflammation and ischemia/reperfusion. Activation and dysfunction of the pulmonary vascular endothelium are closely related to clinical findings of pulmonary dysfunction. READ MORE

  4. 4. Spray drying of particles intended for inhalation - Investigation of significant process variables and product characteristics, with focus on degradation and solid state properties

    Author : Kristina Mosén; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Läkemedelsteknik och relaterad teknik; Pharmaceutical and related technologies; carbohydrate; insulin; process conditions; crystallinity; degradation; particle size; spray drying; inhalation;

    Abstract : The interest in spray drying for production of inhalable particles has grown considerably since the late 1980s. However, which process variables that control degradation and the solid state properties have not been subject to extensive research. This thesis deals with how important characteristics of inhalation particles can be controlled, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 5. Deposition and absorption of inhaled drugs

    Author : Eva Bondesson; Malmö Klinisk fysiologi och nuklearmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; technetium-99m; radionuclide imaging; radioactive aerosol; powder inhaler; pharmacokinetics; mucociliary clearance; lung deposition; gamma scintigraphy; inhalation; deposition modelling; drug absorption; absorption enhancer; aerosol; medicinsk instrumentering; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Main objectives of this thesis were to evaluate a gamma scintigraphic method used to quantify drug aerosol deposition in the lung, to investigate the influence of two aerosol inhalation parameters on the distribution of inhaled dry powder within the airways, to assess pulmonary absorption kinetics and bioavailability of an inhaled hydrophilic solute in relation to site of deposition, and to assess the influence of a surface active agent (sodium taurocholate, a bile salt) on the deposition and absorption of an inhaled hydrophilic solute. Repeated planar gamma scintigraphy was found to provide the same information on total pulmonary drug deposition as an independent method that involved assessments of urinary drug recovery after blockage of gastrointestinal drug absorption when all of the critical parts of the methodological procedures were accurately and meticulously executed.
