  1. 16. Platelet Inhibition and Bleeding in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

    Author : Ulrica Alström; Elisabeth Ståhle; Ulf Schött; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bleeding; cardiac surgery; platelet inhibition; re-exploration; cost analysis; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Thoraxkirurgi; Thorax Surgery; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård;

    Abstract : A substantial number of patients undergoing cardiac surgery are on dual anti-platelet treatment with clopidogrel and aspirin. A disadvantage with this treatment is increased risk of bleeding. Bleeding is a complication of major concern associated with adverse outcome for the patient and increased hospital resource utilization. READ MORE

  2. 17. PCR inhibition mechanisms in forensic DNA analysis

    Author : Maja Sidstedt; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCR inhibition mechanisms; Real-time PCR; Digital PCR; Massively parallel sequencing;

    Abstract : In forensic DNA analysis, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) enables DNAanalysis of minute biological crime scene traces. PCR is an enzymatic reaction for amplification of specific DNA fragments involving both biochemical andbiophysical processes. The main analytical challenge is posed by the nature of the samples of interest. READ MORE

  3. 18. The Role of Inhibitory Control and Executive Functioning in Hyperactivity/ADHD

    Author : Lisa Berlin; Erland Hjelmquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; ADHD; hyperactivity; inhibition; executive functioning; development; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : This thesis examined inhibition, executive functioning and their possible relation to childhood problems of hyperactivity and inattention, in its clinical form referred to as Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder (ADHD). Concurrent as well as longitudinal relations were of interest, and both clinical and non-clinical samples were studied. READ MORE

  4. 19. Physiology and Pharmacology of GABAA receptors: The Brakes in the Brain

    Author : Catarina Lindquist; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Fysiologi; Ion channels; GABA; Inhibition;

    Abstract : Inhibitory neurotransmission in the brain is mostly mediated by gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptors. These receptors are involved in both phasic inhibition (point-to-point inhibition, synaptic transmission) and tonic inhibition (diffuse form of inhibition, brain homeostasis). READ MORE

  5. 20. The kinetics of cellulose enzymatic hydrolysis : Implications of the synergism between enzymes

    Author : Priit Väljamäe; Jan-Christer Janson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Acetobacter; Cellobiohydrolase; Cellobiose; Cellulase; Cellulose; Diffusion; Endoglucanase; Hydrolysis; Inhibition; Kinetics; Model; Product; Substrate; Surface; Synergism; Trichoderma reesei; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The hydrolysis kinetics of bacterial cellulose and its derivatives by Trichoderma reesei cellulases was studied. The cellulose surface erosion model was introduced to explain the gradual and strong retardation of the rate of enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose. READ MORE
