16. Itch and Pain Inhibitory Mechanisms in Humans - evidence for a differential control of nociceptive senses
Abstract : It is known that stimulation of thin nerve afferents can inhibit itch and pain and that the nociceptive systems have a detailed topographical organisation, with subsystems exhibiting specific excitatory and inhibitory receptive fields. On this basis, a new technique was developed, termed Cutaneous Field Stimulation (CFS), that electrically stimulates thin nerve fibers innervating specific skin fields. READ MORE

17. Cell cycle control by components of cell anchorage
Abstract : Extracellular factors, such as growth factors and cell anchorage to the extracellular matrix, control when and where cells may proliferate. This control is abolished when a normal cell transforms into a tumour cell. The control of cell proliferation by cell anchorage was elusive and less well studied than the control by growth factors. 18. Neuropeptide Y Y1 receptor mechanisms in sympathetic vascular control
Abstract : It was demonstrated that the Y1 receptor was the predominant vascular neuropeptide Y (NPY) receptor in pig kidney and hind limb as exogenous and endogenous NPY evoked vasoconstrictor responses that were almost or totally abolished by the selective non-peptide Y1 receptor antagonist, BIBP 3226. Furthermore, renal vasoconstriction was evoked by NPY and a peptide Y1 agonist, but not by a Y 2 agonist, and these responses were strongly reduced by another non-peptide Y, receptor antagonist, SR 120107A. 19. Multisensory control of gaze stabilization : from brainstem to bedside
Abstract : Without the continuous updates provided by the vestibular and visual systems, our world would appear blurry and unstable. In order to allow the retina to reliably record incoming light in a meaningful way, the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and optokinetic reflex (OKR) aim to stabilize our gaze on visual features. 20. Motor control in zebrafish : excitatory drive and developmental changes
Abstract : An essential characteristic of human and animal life is the ability to move from one place to another, in order to survive in a complex environment. All the different forms of locomotion, like walking, swimming, crawling and flying, have one common feature: rhythmic and alternating movements of the body. READ MORE
