1. The role of glucocorticoid receptors and mitogen-regulated protein kinases in the cochlea
Abstract : Hearing loss induced by acoustic trauma is a common handicap for the human population. Acoustic trauma triggers a cascade of changes in the cochlea such as a direct mechanical damage of sensory hair cells, biochemical disturbances including reactive oxygen and nitrogen species generation, release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and exitotoxicity. 2. Modeling of biomembranes: from computational toxicology to simulations of neurodegenerative diseases
Abstract : It was known from the middle of the last century that a cell-membrane is a lipid bilayer. Since that time a large number of experimental studies has been done in order to see how a certain molecule can penetrate through a membrane. READ MORE

3. Studies on Airway Surface Liquid in Connection with Cystic Fibrosis
Abstract : Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the most common fatal inherited diseases, most prevalent among Caucasians. CF is caused by a mutation in the gene coding for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), which helps to create sweat, digestive juices, and airway surface liquid (ASL). 4. Magnetic Heterostructures : The Effect of Compositional Modulation on Magnetic Properties
Abstract : The effect of compositional modulation on structural and magnetic properties of magnetic heterostructures was explored. The systems under focus were ferromagnetic superlattices Fe81Ni19/Co, metal-insulator multilayers Al2O3/Ni81Fe19, nanoparticles and artificial multilayered pillars. READ MORE

5. Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio
Abstract : This work focuses on the improvement of spectrum utilization by evaluating and proposing a subset of radio scene analysis algorithms for opportunistic spectrum access deployment in a cognitive radio network. The proposed algorithms aim to solve two problems: detecting vacant frequency channels and estimating the waveform, including modulation type, symbol rate, and central frequency. READ MORE
