  1. 1. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants

    Author : Emma Undeman; Michael McLachlan; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass balance model; environmental modeling; exposure modeling; bioaccumulation; organic contaminants; emission estimate; plant model; steady state; poly parameter linear free energy relationship; PPLFER; ecosystem susceptibility; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Computation of Parameters in some Mathematical Models

    Author : Gunilla Wikström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; inverse problems; parameter estimation; systems of ordinary differential equations; short-cut methods; separable nonlinear least squares problems; Matlab toolbox for nonlinear least squares ; linear systems of equations; pseudoinverse solution; perturbation theory; singular value decomposition; experimental error analysis; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : In computational science it is common to describe dynamic systems by mathematical models in forms of differential or integral equations. These models may contain parameters that have to be computed for the model to be complete. READ MORE

  3. 3. Handling Combinatorial Explosion in Software Testing

    Author : Mats Grindal; Sten Andler; Yu Lei; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Input parameter models; software development; software testing; test process; Software engineering; Programvaruteknik; Technology; Teknik; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the overall conclusion is that combination strategies, (i.e., test case selection methods that manage the combinatorial explosion of possible things to test), can improve the software testing in most organizations. The research underlying this thesis emphasizes relevance by working in close relationship with industry. READ MORE

  4. 4. Parameter and State Estimation with Information-rich Signals

    Author : Magnus Evestedt; Alexander Medvedev; Fredrik Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; information-rich signals; audio; video; acoustic echo cancellation; steel production; LD-converter; Kalman filter; covariance windup; recursive parameter estimation; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : The complexity of industrial systems and the mathematical models to describe them increases. In many cases, point sensors are no longer sufficient to provide controllers and monitoring instruments with the information necessary for operation. The need for other types of information, such as audio and video, has grown. READ MORE

  5. 5. Determining Chlorophyll-a Concentrations in Aquatic Systems with New Statistical Methods and Models

    Author : Peter Dimberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chlorophyll-a; statistical models; aquatic systems; lakes;

    Abstract : Chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration is an indicator of the trophic status and is extensively used as a measurement of the algal biomass which affects the level of eutrophication in aquatic systems. High concentration of chl-a may indicate high biomass of phytoplankton which can decrease the quality of water or eliminate important functional groups in the ecosystem. READ MORE
