21. On Parameter Identification for Better Predictions of Dam Behaviour
Abstract : Numerical modelling is often needed as a tool to predict the behaviour and assess the safety of dam structures. Embankment dam structures analyses are quite complex and potential failures are hazardous. Predictions of dam behaviour by numerical modelling rely on knowledge about the mechanical properties of the materials the dam is constructed with. READ MORE

22. Sequential Monte Carlo for inference in nonlinear state space models
Abstract : Nonlinear state space models (SSMs) are a useful class of models to describe many different kinds of systems. Some examples of its applications are to model; the volatility in financial markets, the number of infected persons during an influenza epidemic and the annual number of major earthquakes around the world. 23. On some continuous-time modeling and estimation problems for control and communication
Abstract : The scope of the thesis is to estimate the parameters of continuous-time models used within control and communication from sampled data with high accuracy and in a computationally efficient way.In the thesis, continuous-time models of systems controlled in a networked environment, errors-in-variables systems, stochastic closed-loop systems, and wireless channels are considered. 24. Direction-dependent processes - Theory and application
Abstract : In this thesis, direction-dependent processes are described as processes whose responses differ in shape, strength and speed, depending on whether the input signal or output signal increases or decreases. The way in which these dynamics arise is discussed for three different applications; these applications are a thermomechanical pulp refiner, in which the motor load response to the hydraulic pressure is direction dependent, a paper machine, in which the calliper control in the calender section is direction dependent, and an electronic nose, in which the response to substrate concentration is direction dependent. 25. Aging sensitive battery control
Abstract : The battery is a component with significant impact on both the cost and environmental footprint of a full electric vehicle (EV). Consequently, there is a strong motivation to maximize its degree of utilization. Usage limits are enforced by the battery management system (BMS) to ensure safe operation and limit battery degradation. READ MORE
