1. Inhibition of Calcium and Zinc Absorption by Phytate in Man Methodological Studies and Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals to Improve Absorption
Abstract : A mathematical model based on measurements in a whole-body counter described the retention of calcium in the human body. It was shown that the relative retention of intravenous and orally administered 47Ca in all subjects (n = 10 - 11) were well described by fitting a simple function of time with two free parameters to a few whole-body measurements after day 6, when the unabsorbed calcium had been excreted. 2. Intracellular signaling of phosphorylated insitol compounds : a study in pancreatic beta-cells and hippocampal neurons
Abstract : The family of phosphorylated inositol compounds consists of soluble cytosolic inositol phosphates and insoluble inositol phospholipids, localized in cellular membranes and the nuclear matrix. Although inositol phospholipids only account for 5-10% of total plasma membrane lipids, these compounds and their inositol phosphate derivatives play an important role in a broad range of cellular processes including intracellular Ca 2+ signalling, ion channel regulation, vesicle trafficking, both exo- and endocytosis, cell growth and apoptosis. 3. Phytases in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Exploring genes and proteins for the improvement of strains
Abstract : Degradation of myo-inositol hexaphosphate (InsP6, phytate) in food or feed by InsP6-degrading enzymes (phytases) is known to increase the availability of minerals and phosphate, which leads to a higher nutritional value. The aim of this work was to explore the extracellular degradation of InsP6 by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. READ MORE

4. Stimulation of insulin secretion independently from changes in cytosolic free Ca²+-concentration : studies with imidazolines and inositol polyphosphates
Abstract : Insulin secretion from the islets of Langerhans is regulated by changes in glucose concentration. Glucose stimulates secretion by two mechanisms. First, it increases cytosolic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) by inhibition of ATP-dependent K+-channels (KATP) and induction of membrane depolarization. READ MORE

5. Factors Influencing Phytate Degradation in Piglets. Feed phytate behaviour and degradation by microbial phytases
Abstract : Phytate, the main storage form of phosphorus (P) in plant feedstuffs, is indigestible for monogastric animals, and phytases are therefore used as feed additives to increase the digestibility of phytate-P and limit the inclusion of inorganic P. However, new and improved phytases are needed to obtain better phytate digestibility and allow for lower inclusions of inorganic P. READ MORE
