  1. 1. Sexual selection in Pomatoschistus – nests, sperm competition, and paternal care

    Author : Ola Svensson; Charlotta Kvarnemo; Sigal Balshine; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Female choice; Filial cannibaism; Gobiidae; Nests; Paternal care; Pomatoschistus microps; Pomatoschistus minutus; Sexual selection; Sperm competition; Teleostei; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Sexual selection arises through variation in reproductive success. This thesis investigates different aspects important in sexual selection, namely nest building, sperm competition, paternity and paternal care, and their mutual interrelationships. READ MORE

  2. 2. Computational and spatial analyses of rooftops for urban solar energy planning

    Author : Mohammad Aslani; Stefan Seipel; S. Anders Brandt; Julia Åhlén; Alison Jane Heppenstall; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Machine learning; Classification; Segmentation; Support vector machines; Instance selection; Rooftop plane segmentation; Photovoltaic panels; Utiliz-able rooftop areas; Geoinformatics; maskininlärning; klassificering; segmentering; stödvektormaskiner; urval av träningsdata; segmentering av takytor; solcellspaneler; utnyttjande av takytor; geoinformatik; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Abstract : In cities where land availability is limited, rooftop photovoltaic panels (RPVs) offer high potential for satisfying concentrated urban energy demand by using only rooftop areas. However, accurate estimation of RPVs potential in relation to their spatial distribution is indispensable for successful energy planning. READ MORE

  3. 3. Subspace Selection Techniques for Classification Problems

    Author : David Lindgren; Lennart Ljung; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Linear subspaces for regression; Asymetric classification; Subspace parameterization; Clustered regression analysis;

    Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is linear subspaces for regression - how to find the subspaces and how to evaluate them. The motivation to do regression in a subspace is numerical as well as computational - numerical in the sense that the subspace can filter out the relevant components or features of the problem, computationally in the sense that this filtering can be done quickly and then can nonlinear predictionby artificial neural networks, for instance, be conducted in lower dimensionality. 4. 4. Parallel target selection by trinucleotide threading

    Author : Pawel Zajac; Joakim Lundeberg; Afshin Ahmadian; Mats Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; trinucleotide threading; multiplex amplification; expression profiling; microarray; generic tag; short tandem repeat; microsatellite; electrophoresis; single nucleotide polymorphism; allelotyping; 454; Pyrosequencing; Genetic engineering including functional genomics; Genteknik inkl. funktionsgenomik;

    Abstract : DNA is the code for all life. Via intermediary RNA the information encoded by the genome is relayed to proteins executing the various functions in a cell. Together, this repertoire of inherently linked biological macromolecules determines all characteristics and features of a cell. READ MORE

  5. 5. Testing of Heterogeneous Systems

    Author : Nauman Ghazi; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Testing; Heterogeneous systems; Information sources; Test selection;

    Abstract : Context: A system of systems often exhibits heterogeneity, for instance in implementation, hardware, process and verification. We define a heterogeneous system, as a system comprised of multiple systems (system of systems) where at least one subsystem exhibits heterogeneity with respect to the other systems. READ MORE
