1. Advances in Thermal Insulation : Vacuum Insulation Panels and Thermal Efficiency to Reduce Energy Usage in Buildings
Abstract : We are coming to realize that there is an urgent need to reduce energy usage in buildings and it has to be done in a sustainable way. This thesis focuses on the performance of the building envelope; more precisely thermal performance of walls and super insulation material in the form of vacuum insulation. READ MORE

2. Thermoplastic Insulation for High Voltage Cables
Abstract : High voltage direct current (HVDC) cables that seamlessly integrate renewables have an important contribution to the modern world’s efforts towards a more sustainable future. Extruded HVDC cables that efficiently and reliably transport electricity require robust insulation materials with good thermomechanical and dielectric properties. READ MORE

3. Building Retrofit using Vacuum Insulation Panels: Hygrothermal Performance and Durability
Abstract : Many old buildings have unsatisfactory thermal performance compared to the standards of today. One way to increase the thermal performance is to add thermal insulation to the building envelope. However, many old buildings are listed and considered to be valuable for historical and esthetic reasons. READ MORE

4. Characterization of Conduction and Polarization Properties of HVDC Cable XLPE Insulation Materials
Abstract : High voltage direct current (HVDC) cables with extruded insulation system were introduced in 1998. Since then this technology has been growing rapidly with many installations that are today operational at voltages up to 320 kV. READ MORE

5. Voltage Stabilizers: From Design to Synthesis, Processing and Electrical Characterization
Abstract : Voltage stabilizers are additives capable of inhibiting electrical treeing; a degradation mechanism for insulation materials subjected to strong divergent electric fields. The intended use is in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) high voltage power cable insulation where minute defects in the manufacturing process can give rise to the conditions needed for the initiation of treeing, which in the worst case scenario leads to failure of the insulation system with blackouts and expensive repairs as a consequence.
