1. Self-management of diabetes in adolescents using insulin pumps
Abstract : Insulin pump treatment (CSII) is considered the most physiological way to imitate the healthy body’s insulin profile in adolescents with diabetes. However, despite the use of CSII, achieving the recommended disease control is difficult for adolescents. READ MORE

2. Atherosclerosis and Insulin Resistance AIR A cross-sectional study of 58-year old men
Abstract : The main aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that insulin resistance is associated with atherosclerotic disease in the carotid and femoral arteries as measured using the ultrasound technique in clinically healthy 58-year old men with varying degrees of obesity and insulin resistance. The subjects were recruited from the general population and were free from clinical cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and treatment with antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and anti-diabetic drugs (n=818). 3. Regulation of Islet Function by the Neuropeptide PACAP
Abstract : It is known that parasympathetic, sympathetic and sensory nerves innervate the islets and that these nerves harbor both classical neurotransmitters and neuropeptides. However, the neural influence on islet hormone release is complex and not yet fully understood A recently discovered pancreatic neuropeptide is pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP). 4. Identification of abnormally expressed genes in skeletal muscle contributing to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
Abstract : The metabolic defects of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes can result from changes in gene expression and protein functions due to genetic and environmental influences. The aim of this study was to identify abnormally expressed genes associated with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, and further to test whether possible defects are inherited or acquired. 5. The interplay between the endocrine and cardiovascular systems. A study of the hormonal influence on cardiovascular function and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression
Abstract : During the present thesis, special interest was focused on the cardiovascular effects of growth hormone (GH) and estrogen (E2) and combined treatment of GH+E2, in particular the possible effects on endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression and nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability for maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis. The possible role of fluid mechanical force e. READ MORE
