1. High-molecular-weight insulin-like growth factor 2 : immunohistochemical, ultrastructural and biochemical findings in insulin cells under normal, diabetic, and neoplastic conditions, and its role in non-islet cell tumour hypoglycaemia
Abstract : IGF-2 immunoreactive (IR) cells were identified in the normal adult pancreas of man and rat and occurred exclusively in insulin-producing cells. When frozen human pancreatic tissue was extracted and gel-size-separated, a high-molecular-weight (HMW) IGF-2 peptide could be identified. READ MORE

2. New neurons and astrocytes in the adult brain. Studies on adult rat neural progenitors in vivo and in vitro with special reference to the effects of IGF-I and CNTF regarding proliferation and lineage determination
Abstract : The hippocampal dentate gyrus in several species, including man, continues to produce new neurons and glial cells in adulthood. The generation of new neurons and glial cells in the adult hippocampus is under strict regulation. Two major events of significance for cell genesis from progenitor cells are proliferation and lineage determination. READ MORE

3. Alterations in receptor expression and function in scrapie-infected neuronal cell lines
Abstract : This study shows that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces a robust, concentration-and time-dependent increase in nitric oxide (NO) production in the murine neuroblastoma cell line N2a by increased expression of iNOS. However, in scrapie-infected N2a cells (ScN2a), the LPS-induced NO production was completely abolished. READ MORE

4. The role of angiomotin in angiogenesis
Abstract : Angiogenesis plays key roles during embryonic development, female reproduction and wound repair. Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from of pre-existing capillaries, is a process tightly regulated by a balance between positive and negative regulators. READ MORE

5. Neurobiological aspects on brain function in neuro-psychiatric patients and in healthy subjects
Abstract : The levels of insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF-2) were assessed in lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from children with various kinds of brain damage and from Alzheimer (AD) patients and controls. Whole CSF was separated using acid gel chromatography and the presence of insulin-like growth factor binding protein and two different kinds of free IGF-2 m the CSF was established. READ MORE
