  1. 1. Development and application of alternative methods for profiling proteins N-glycosylation

    Author : Alessandro Quaranta; Leopold Ilag; Niclas Karlsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; N-glycosylation; Glycomics; Glycosylation Biomarkers; Intact Glycoproteins; Glycoform Quantification; Mass Spectrometry; Ion Mobility Spectrometry; MALDI-MS; Paper Spray Ionization; Microfluidics; Magnetic Beads; Immunoaffinity Purification; Nanobodies; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Glycosylation is a post-translational modification (PTM) that exerts profound structural and functional effects on the modified protein. Glycan synthesis and conjugation to proteins are regulated by a myriad of factors, both genetic and environmental, and are also influenced by external stressors. READ MORE

  2. 2. The role of glycoproteins in glomerular pathophysiology

    Author : Alina Khramova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteoglycans; Extracellular matrix; IgA nephropathy; Diabetic kidney disease;

    Abstract : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing worldwide and has a prevalence of around 10%. With time patients are at risk of losing their renal function and will need dialysis or transplantation for survival. There are no specific treatments available and mechanisms behind the onset and progression of CKD are still not fully investigated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mucins in normal and diseased airways

    Author : Hans Hovenberg; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory system; Submucosal glands; Goblet cells; Organ culture; Respiratory tract; Mucins; Mucus glycoproteins; Andningsorganen;

    Abstract : Mucus glycoproteins (mucins) are the principal constituents of respiratory secretions in health and disease. The increased 'acidity' of mucin producing cells in the bronchitic airways is not reflected in a change of negative charge of bronchitic mucins. READ MORE

  4. 4. Glycosylation of microsomal proteins and their relationship to peroxisomes

    Author : Eeva-Liisa Appelkvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The distribution of glycoproteins in rough and smooth microsomes and Golgi membranes was studied using proteolytic treatment of intact vesicles. About half of the protein-bound sugar residues could be removed by this treatment, indicating the presence of glycoproteins on both surfaces of the membrane. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular basis for galectin-ligand interactions : Design, synthesis and analysis of ligands

    Author : Kristoffer Peterson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galectin; Structure-based design; Thiodigalactoside; Huisgen 1; 3-dipolar cycloaddition; Protein-ligand binding interactions;

    Abstract : Galectins are a class of β-galactoside-binding proteins that bind glycoconjugates and have been implicated in cancer, regulation of immunity and inflammation. Design and synthesis have achieved highly potent and selective galectin ligands that can inhibit interactions with glycoproteins and have consequent cellular effects. READ MORE
