  1. 1. Beyond the Product – Enabling design services in small and medium sized enterprises

    Author : Magnus Eneberg; Industridesign; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Service dominant logic; Small and medium sized enterprises; Activity theory; Organizational change; Organizational learning; Design management; Design management; Organizational learning; Organizational change; Activity theory; Small and medium sized enterprises; Service dominant logic;

    Abstract : While the design industry is moving into new domains, it seems that potential customers do not always understand how the designer can contribute beyond the aesthetically appealing product. The overall purpose of this thesis is to expand our understanding of design as an enabling service in the context of small and medium sized enterprises. READ MORE

  2. 2. Life Cycle Energy Optimisation: A multidisciplinary engineering design optimisation framework for sustainable vehicle development

    Author : Hamza Bouchouireb; Ciarán J. O'Reilly; Peter Göransson; Rupert J. Baumgartner; José Potting; Mario Hirz; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Life cycle energy optimisation; Multidisciplinary optimisation; Integrative design; Sustainable vehicle design; Functional conflicts; Vehicle aerodynamics; Battery energy storage systems; Robust design; Uncertainty propagation; Livscykelenergi; Fordonsdesign; Optimering; Tvär-funktionella konflikter; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis explores how the systemic-level environmental footprint of light-duty vehicles could be reduced through integrative design using the Life Cycle Energy Optimisation (LCEO) methodology. This methodology aims at finding a design solution that uses a minimum amount of cumulative energy demand over the different phases of the vehicle's life cycle; while complying with a set of functional constraints, thereby avoiding any sub-optimal energy demand shifts between the vehicle's different life cycle phases. 3. 3. Semipermeable membrane devices as integrative tools for monitoring nonpolar aromatic compounds in air

    Author : Hanna Söderström; Mats Tysklind; Per-Anders Bergqvist; Jochen F. Muller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; air pollution; alkyl-PAHs; atmosphere; bioavailability; boundary layer; diffusive sampling; emissions; integrative; membrane; monitoring; nitro-PAHs; PAHs; particles; passive samplers; PCBs; plants; PRCs; release rate; sampler design; sources; SPMDs; traffic; uptake rate; wind effect; wood burning; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Air pollutants pose a high risk for humans, and the environment, and this pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing modern society. Active air sampling is the technique that has been traditionally used to monitor nonpolar aromatic air pollutants. READ MORE

  4. 4. Devising Capabilities : Service Design for Development Interventions

    Author : Fiona Lambe; Stefan Holmlid; Matthew Osborne; Alison Prendiville; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Service design; Capabilities approach; Development interventions; Global South; Complexity;

    Abstract : Despite the progress in recent decades, one in ten people globally still live in extreme poverty, and this number is set to increase in the coming years. Designing interventions to improve well-being and livelihoods is challenging because poverty is multidimensional and plays out in complex, adaptive social-ecological systems, where behaviours and practices at the local level can have unintended consequences elsewhere in the system. 5. 5. Integrative Analysis of Dynamic Networks

    Author : Vinay Jethava; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lovasz theta function; dynamic networks; integrative analysis; probabilistic graphical models; support vector machines; graph kernels;

    Abstract : Networks play a central role in several disciplines such as computational biology, social network analysis, transportationplanning and many others; and consequently, several methods have been developed for network analysis. However, in many cases, the study of a single network is insufficient to discover patterns with multiple facets and subtlesignals. READ MORE
