  1. 1. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB

    Author : Karina Åhlén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Integrin α2β1; PDGF-BB; fibroblast; interstitial fluid pressure; cytoskeletal interaction; phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase; [Ca2 ]i; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 2. 2. Cellular Interactions with Extracellular Matrix During Development and in Muscle Disease

    Author : Carl-Fredrik Tiger; Anders Aspberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; integrin; laminin; collagen; muscle; tendon; skeleton; mouse; human; development; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : The formation and maintenance of tissues in multicellular animals are crucially dependent on cellular interactions with the extracellular matrix (ECM). Two different studies on such interactions are presented herein. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional Studies of Collagen-Binding Integrins α2β1 and α11β1 : Interplay between Integrins and Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptors

    Author : Gunilla Grundström; Kristofer Rubin; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Integrins are heterodimeric cell surface receptors, composed of an α- and a β-subunit, which mediate cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions. Integrins mediate intracellular signals in response to extracellular stimuli, and cooperate with growth factor and other cytokine receptors. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of 1-intergrins in skeletal muscle differentiation and extracellular matrix assembly

    Author : Lars Lohikangas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; β1 Integrins; Matrix Deposition; Skeletal Muscle Cell; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Integrin subunit β1 forms heterodimeric receptors with at least 12 different α-subunits.These integrins are the main cellular receptors for extracellular matrix and they arenecessary for normal development. In this thesis, the effects of lack of integrin subunitβ1 on matrix deposition and on skeletal muscle development were studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Nitric oxide and evaluation of different treatments in experimental colitis and inflammatory bowel disease

    Author : Sofie Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), is a chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology of the gastrointestinal tract. Central features of IBD are increased nitric oxide (NO) generation in the gut lumen and dysfunction in regulation of leukocyte recruitment from the blood stream towards the affected tissue. READ MORE
