  1. 21. Fat metabolism during total parenteral nutrition: A biochemical and ultra-structural study

    Author : Bengt Roth; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; Intravenous Fat Emulsion - Lipid Metabolism - Lipoprotein lipase - Kupffer cells - - Histology - Fatty liver - Adverse reactions - Haemophagocytosis; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates alterations in lipid metabolism and Kupffer cell morphology seen during total parenteral nutrition in healthy rats. During infusion of lipid emulsions, cholesterol and phospholipids accumulated in non-high density lipoproteins, while high density lipoproteins were enriched in triglycerides. READ MORE

  2. 22. Pain following Surgery: Management, Outcome, and Prediction

    Author : Åsa Rudin; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensivvård; Epidural analgesia; Outcome; Prediction.; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; Postoperative pain; Patient controlled analgesia;

    Abstract : Despite advances in the treatment of postoperative pain, nearly 30% of patients experience moderate to severe pain following major surgery. The present thesis includes four studies intended to evaluate important aspects of postoperative pain. READ MORE

  3. 23. Extreme hemodilution: Effects of inhalation anesthetics, hypoxia, and blood loss. An Experimental study in pigs

    Author : Henning Schou; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; oxygen saturation.; blood volume; coronary circulation; blood lactate; oxygen uptake; Anemia; oxygen delivery; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Hemodilution reduces the need for blood transfusion and hereby the risk for transmission of infectious agents. The present study investigated effects on systemic and myocardial circulation and oxygenation, and blood lactate concentrations; induced by nitrous oxide, isoflurane, hypoxia, and uncompensated blood loss, in pigs hemodiluted to a hematocrit of 11%. 4. 24. Anaesthetics and the blood vessel wall. Actions of propofol and sevoflurane on sympathetic and endothelial control of smooth muscle function

    Author : Karin Thorlacius; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; vein.; artery; endothelium; sympathetic nervous system; inhalation agent sevoflurane; Anaesthesia; intravenous propofol;

    Abstract : The anaesthetics we use today dose-dependently decrease the mean arterial pressure partly due to direct or indirect effects on the blood vessels. In the present thesis human omental arteries and veins and rat femoral arteries were investigated in vitro concerning the effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol and the volatile anaesthetic sevoflurane on the function of the perivascular sympathetic nerves and the endothelial cells. 5. 25. Lung volumes and lung mechanics in anesthetized children

    Author : Adalbjörn Thorsteinsson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sulfur hexafluoride; Anaesthesiology; lung volumes; lung compliance; Anesthesia: pediatric; functional residual capacity; intensive care; Anestesiologi; ventilation inhomogeneity; intensivvård; airway closure;

    Abstract : The thesis was intended to fill gaps in the knowledge regarding the normal development of lung volumes and lung mechanics in children, from young infancy to the mid-teens. In particular, data were previously lacking regarding pre-school children. The studies were done during anesthesia and muscle relaxation. READ MORE
