  1. 21. Immunological Studies using Human and Canine Model Disorders

    Author : Kerstin M. Ahlgren; Anna Lobell; Olle Kämpe; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Roland Jonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmunity; T cell; T helper cell; B cell; Autoantibodies; Interferon; Interleukin; Dogs; APS-1; Candida albicans; fungus; Immunologi; Immunology; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : The studies presented in this thesis focus on human and canine models for autoimmune disease, with the main aim to gain new knowledge about disease mechanisms and to further evaluate the dog as a model for autoimmune disease. Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome type 1 (APS-1) is a hereditary human multiorgan disease caused by mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene. READ MORE

  2. 22. Immuno Gene Therapy of Rat Brain Tumors with interferon-gamma transfected glioma cells

    Author : Edward Visse; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; transplantation; serologi; Immunologi; Immunotherapy; Rat brain tumor; Interferon-gamma; isograft rejection; tumor infiltrating lymphocytes; Immunization; Immunology; serology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Immunotherapy is a new promising approach in cancer treatment. In the future, it will hopefully offer an alternative to existing brain tumors treatments, which are unable to cure. We have established an experimental, low immunogenic, brain tumor model in the rat. READ MORE

  4. 24. Effects of interferon on cellular proliferation and apoptosis

    Author : Olle Sangfelt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : interferon; malignancy; apoptosis; cell cycle;

    Abstract : Interferon (IFN) therapy is today a well-established treatment in many diseases, including various malignancies. How IFN exerts antitumor activity is not known, but several mechanisms have been suggested. READ MORE

  5. 25. Gene Therapy with Interferon Alpha and the Angiogenic Inhibitor, Vasostatin, in Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Digestive System

    Author : Minghui Liu; Kjell Oberg; Yinghua Zhou; Bertram Wiedenmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Internal medicine; neuroendocrine tumor; interferon-α; vasostatin; vinculin; tumor suppressor gene; nude mice; gene therapy; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : IFN-α has been applied in medical treatment of various neuroendocrine (NE) tumors, either alone or combination with somatostatin analogues. They can improve clinical symptoms in 50-70% of patients but a significant tumor reduction is only observed in 5-15% patients. Vasostatin (vaso) is believed to be an angiogenic inhibitor. READ MORE
