11. Tissue tumor marker expression in normal cervical tissue and in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, for women who are at high risk of human papilloma virus infection, are smokers, contraceptive users or in fertile age
Abstract : The aim of this research was to study the correlation between tissue tumor marker expression and HR-HPV infection, smoking, hormonal contraceptive use and sex steroids in women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia or normal epithelium. The study investigated the expression of 11 tumor markers in cervical biopsies obtained from 228 women with different diagnoses ranging from normal cervical epithelium to various stages of CIN. 12. The genetics of systemic lupus erythematosus : Mapping of susceptibility loci for human SLE
Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic autoimmune disease affecting organs such as skin, jointsand kidneys. Characteristic for the disease is increased production of autoantibodies, in particular against dsDNA. Previous studies of SLE in mouse models and in humans indicate polygenic inheritance and genetic heterogeneity. READ MORE

13. Coagulation, fibrinolysis and inflammation in open surgery for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm
Abstract : Elective repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) carries a mortality of 4-8% and there is a substantial incidence of serious non-lethal complications. During surgery there is a situation of relative ischaemia and subsequent reperfusion of the lower part of the body. READ MORE

14. Blood protein coated model biomaterials : preparation, and cell and tissue response
Abstract : Solid biomaterials are widely used in bone and in soft tissue applications. Problems may then arise due to a prolonged inflammation in the proximity of the implant, resulting in the formation of a fibrous capsule and a low vascularisation near the interface. READ MORE

15. Experimental inhibition of proliferative retinopathy
Abstract : Retinal ischemic diseases like retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), diabetic retinopathy (DRP) and retinal vein occlusion, with preretinal neovascularization (angiogenesis) that may lead to vitreous hemorrhages and retinal detachment with subsequent vision loss and blindness is a global health problem. By analyzing the potential role of molecules acting at different levels of the angiogenic cascade the presented studies aimed to widen our understanding of retinal ischemic diseases on a molecular, cellular and morphologic level.
