Abstract :
The present licentiate thesis analyses developments in Swedish marine insurance during the interwar period, including both direct marine insurance and marine reinsurance. This is done in order to provide insights on how companies of a highly internationalised and vulnerable line of insurance were affected by and responded to new risks during a period of far-reaching international financial and economic crises. This study analyzes narratives of individual Jewish experiences of discrimination and genocidal violence in Hungary during the period of 1920–1945. "I no longer understand it, and I no longer care for it," Johan Huizinga, Professor of General History at Leiden University, said about his own field to his undoubtedly perplexed students at the opening of the academic year in 1919. The Great War had shocked him to the bone: states, traditions, norms and communities that until only recently had seemed part of life’s unquestionable fabric had been torn apart – and though Huizinga did not know at the time, more experiences of loss and upheaval were soon to follow. Abstract :
This licentiate thesis examines the development of Swedish–Lebanese trade relations and the changes of significance for Swedish trade towards Lebanon during the period 1920-1965. The aim of the study is to explore how Sweden as representing a small, open Western economy could develop its economic interests in the emerging Middle East market characterised both by promising economic outlooks, and a high degree of political instability during the age of decolonisation, Cold War logic, and intricate commercial and geo-political factors.
