  1. 1. Is the Intuitive Statistician Eager or Lazy? : Exploring the Cognitive Processes of Intuitive Statistical Judgments

    Author : Marcus Lindskog; Anders Winman; Peter Juslin; Klaus Fiedler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Lazy intuitive statistician; Eager intuitive statistician; Intuitive statistics; Sampling model; Numerical cognition; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Numerical information is ubiquitous and people are continuously engaged in evaluating it by means of intuitive statistical judgments. Much research has evaluated if people’s judgments live up to the norms of statistical theory but directed far less attention to the cognitive processes that underlie the judgments. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Lazy Intuitive Statistician : Influence of Data Representation and Retrieval Processes on Intuitive Statistical Judgment

    Author : Marcus Lindskog; Anders Winman; Peter Juslin; Hedvig Söderlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Intuitive statistics; numerical cognition; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Intuitive statistical judgments are an integral part of people’s everyday life and a long line of research has investigated the extent to which man lives up to the norms of statistical theory when performing such judgments. A recent account of intuitive statistical judgments, summarized in the metaphor of the naïve intuitive statistician (K. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Probabilistic Model for Positional Voting - Spectrum Games -

    Author : Thommy Perlinger; Statistiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; operations research; Statistics; Markov-Pólya index; initiator; Voting power index; Spectrum game; connected coalitions; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Abstract : This thesis considers a class of cooperative n-person games (voting games) in which the voters are spread across an ideological scale. The two most commonly used measures of individual voting power in voting games are the Shapley-Shubik index and the Banzhaf-Coleman index. In both indices, the actors are assumed anomymous and treatad symmetrically. READ MORE

  4. 4. Random Models in Time and Space with Financial, Economics and Engineering Applications : Structural Covariance in Space and Stochastic Variability in Time

    Author : Nima Shariati; Statistiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cross-border spillover; Inter- and intralocation effects; Multivariate spatial regression models; Panel data; Spatial econometric models; Gamma distributed variances; Generalized Laplace distribution; Modulated volatility; Non-Gaussian time series; Road profile; Spatial vector autoregressive model; Outlier; Robust control chart; Robust estimation;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we model stochastic processes in time and space. We focus on the processes whose covariance structure is either changing over the time span, or depends on the location in space. We develop models that appropriately describe and analyze such data behaviors in various different fields including finance, economics and engineering. READ MORE

  5. 5. Essays on forecasting and Bayesian model averaging

    Author : Jana Eklund; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis, which consists of four chapters, focuses on forecasting in a data-rich environment and related computational issues. Chapter 1, “An embarrassment of riches: Forecasting using large panels” explores the idea of combining forecasts from various indicator models by using Bayesian model averaging (BMA) and compares the predictive performance of BMA with predictive performance of factor models.
