  1. 6. Nanopatterning by Swift Heavy Ions

    Author : Marek Skupinski; Klas Hjört; Jens Jensen; Christina Trautmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Materials science; swift heavy ions; lithography; nanopatterning; self-assembly; Materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Today, the dominating way of patterning nanosystems is by irradiation-based lithography (e-beam, DUV, EUV, and ions). Compared to the other irradiations, ion tracks created by swift heavy ions in matter give the highest contrast, and its inelastic scattering facilitate minute widening and high aspect ratios (up to several thousands). 2. 7. Metal ions in life : towards accurate computer-aided studies ofprotein-ion interactions

    Author : Emma Ahlstrand; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The importance of ions in life sciences can not be overstated. The interaction betweenmetal ions and proteins is vital because it is involved in a variety of biological processes.The ions contribute to stability and function of proteins. Moreover, they are relevant indisease progression. READ MORE

  3. 8. Ions interacting with macromolecules : NMR studies in solution

    Author : Yuan Fang; Istvan Furo; Monika Schönhoff; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrophoretic NMR; diffusion NMR; specific ion effects; Hofmeister; ion binding; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Specific ion effects, identified for more than hundred years, play an important role in a wide range of phenomena and applications. Several mechanisms such as direct ion interaction with molecules have been suggested to explain these effects, but quantitative experimental evidence remains scarce. READ MORE

  4. 9. Modeling of inorganic ions in aqueous solution

    Author : Vidar Aspelin; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molekylsimulering; statistisk mekanik; termodynamik; oorganiska joner; vattenlösningar; Kirkwood-Buff-teori; beräkningar av fri energi; molecular simulation; statistical mechanics; thermodynamics; inorganic ions; aqueous solutions; Kirkwood-Buff theory; free energy calculations;

    Abstract : Essentially all chemical processes and reactions occurring in the environment take place in the presence of ions. In water, ions set the conditions for how other dissolved particles interact. Ions are also directly involved in chemical reactions affecting the climate such as ozone depletion. READ MORE

  5. 10. Negative Ions Interacting with Photons and Electrons

    Author : Anton Lindahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Negative ions; electron correlation; electron affinity; photodetachment; electron collision;

    Abstract : Negative ions are atoms or molecules where an extra electron is bound to neutral system. The nature of negative ions differs fundamentally from neutral and positive systems. The induced dipole potential responsible for the binding of the extra electron supports only a few bound states with relatively small binding energies. READ MORE
