  2. 2. Light manipulation in micro and nano photonic materials and structures

    Author : Zhihui Chen; Ying Fu; E. L. Ivchenko; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photonic crystal; quantum dot; light-matter interaction;

    Abstract : Light manipulation is an important method to enhance the light-matter interactions in micro and nano photonic materials and structures by generating usefulelectric field components and increasing time and pathways of light propagationthrough the micro and nano materials and structures. For example, quantum wellinfrared photodetector (QWIP) cannot absorb normal incident radiation so thatthe generation of an electric field component which is parallel to the original incident direction is a necessity for the function of QWIP. 3. 3. Fine-scale morphology and spectral characteristics of active aurora

    Author : Hanna Dahlgren; Göran Marklund; Nickolay Ivchenko; Kari Kaila; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aurora; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : Ground-based and in-situ observations of the aurora demonstrate an extreme richness in fine structure, with spatial scales down to tens of metres and time variations occurring on a fraction of a second. To further our understanding of the aurora, it is esssential to understand the mechanisms responsible for the small-scale structuring, since this is an intrinsic property of the auroral plasma. 4. 4. Multi-spectral analysis of fine scale aurora

    Author : Hanna Dahlgren; Göran Marklund; Nickolay Ivchenko; Fred Sigernes; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik; Optics; Optik;

    Abstract : The Aurora Borealis is the visible manifestation of the complex plasma interaction between the solar wind and the Earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere. Ground based and in situ measurements demonstrate a prevalence of dynamic fine structure within auroral displays, with spatial scales down to tens of metres and time variations occurring on a fraction of a second. 5. 5. Enhanced Radar Backscatter from the Ionosphere

    Author : Nicola Schlatter; Nickolay Ivchenko; Noora Partamies; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Incoherent scatter radars are powerful ground based instruments for ionospheric measurements. By analysis of the Doppler shifted backscatter spectrum, containing the signature of electrostatic plasma waves, plasma bulk properties are estimated. READ MORE
