    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbiota; microbiome; vector-borne disease; 16S rRNA gene; amplicon sequencing; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Abstract : Every year, hundreds of thousands of people die from malaria. Malaria is a disease caused by parasites, which are spread by female vector mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles. Current control measures against malaria are based on drugs against the parasites and vector control using insecticides. READ MORE

  2. 2. Home care communication : moving beyond the surface

    Author : Jessica Höglander; Inger K. Holmström; Jakob Håkansson Eklund; Annelie J. Sundler; Bjöörn Fossum; Mälardalens högskola; []

    Abstract : Human milk contains a vast array of bioactive molecules, with nutritional and protective functions. This thesis describes the effects of a human milk protein complex, MAL, on tumour cells and bacteria. During our studies on the anti-adhesive properties of human milk we observed that a milk fraction killed tumour cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Networks and epidemics - impact of network structure on disease transmission

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural sciences; Naturvetenskap;

    Abstract : The spread of infectious diseases, between animals as well as between humans, is a topic often in focus. Outbreaks of diseases like for example foot-and-mouth disease, avian influenza, and swine influenza have in the last decades led to an increasing interest in modelling of infectious diseases since such models can be used to elucidate disease transmission and to evaluate the impact of different control strategies.
