  1. 1. The Use of 2D and 3D Displays in Military Settings

    Author : Patrik Lif; Leo Poom; Kip Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; visuell perception; 3D; displays; spatial cues; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the possibilities of using 3D perspective displays in different military settings, and to illustrate the limitations of 3D displays, that is, when 2D displays are to be preferred. More specifically, this thesis explores (a) readability during vibrations, (b) perception aspects on perspective aircraft displays, and (c) the value of spatial cues in 3D air traffic displays in military settings. 2. 2. Ideals and Interests in Swedish Foreign Policy : Explaining the South African Gripen Deal

    Author : Wayne Stephen Coetzee; Isabell Schierenbeck; Jan Aart Scholte; Douglas Brommesson; Högskolan Väst; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Foreign Policy; Ideals; Interests; Arms Trade; Gripen; Sweden; South Africa; Political science; Statsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This dissertation explores ideals and interests (and their interrelation) in foreign policy. An in-depth case study of this issue examines Sweden’s 1999 JAS-39 Gripen fighter aircraft deal with South Africa. READ MORE

  3. 3. Algebraic Methods for Verification and Control of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems

    Author : Jonas Plantin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS) have become increasingly important in industry and there is a need for structured methods applicable to the design process of DEDS. In this thesis we consider algebraic methods for verification and control of DEDS.To model DEDS we use polynomials in a quotient ring. READ MORE

  4. 4. Design Principles of Fly-By-Wire Architectures

    Author : Kristina Forsberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; replica consistency; redundancy management; fault tolerance; flight control systems; reliable inter-node communication; distributed control; systems design;

    Abstract : Development of embedded real-time systems is highly specialized and time consuming. For instance, Control-By-Wire Systems will continue to face increased requirements on flexibility, scalability, low weight, predictability and testability, at reduced complexity and maintenance costs. 5. 5. On Modeling of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems : Using Symbolic Algebraic Methods

    Author : Johan Gunnarsson; Lennart Ljung; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The interest in discrete event systems (DEDS) has increased during the last years, due to the lack of methods and tools that are capable to handle the complexity of problems and tasks present in industry to day. In this thesis we will consider a symbolic and algebraic framework which will be used for modeling, analysis, and synthesis of DEDS. READ MORE
