1. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 2. A Study in Jet Engine Control Control Structure Selection and Multivariable Design
Abstract : Turbojet engines are becoming increasingly complex, with more control variables, to meet future demands on performance, fuel consumption and functionality. To utilise the potential of these engines, it is also necessary to use more advanced control concepts than conventionally used today. READ MORE

3. Development of Methods for Analysis and Optimization of Complex Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes the development of GESTPAN (GEneral Stationary and Transient Propulsion ANalysis), a generalized system for the design, steady-state and transient simulation of gas turbine systems. Some of the main achievements in the thesis are related to the development of new algorithms or integration of existing numerics tailored to simplify the structure and use of generalized gas turbine simulation systems. 4. Multidisciplinary Design of Transonic Fans for Civil Aeroengines
Abstract : For current state-of-the-art turbofan engines the bypass section of the fan stage alone provides the majority of the total thrust in cruise and the size of the fan has a considerable effect on overall engine weight and nacelle drag. Thrust requirements in different parts of the flight envelope must also be satisfied together with sufficient margins towards stall. READ MORE

5. Knowledge enabled engineering design tools for manufacturability evaluation of jet engine components
Abstract : The manufacturing industry of today is experiencing an increased competitive environment due to the effects of market globalisation. To be able to stay competitive and provide excellent goods, Swedish industry and academia have foreseen the need for new business scenarios, models and methods. READ MORE
