  1. 1. Realism in metacognitive judgments : Effects of social factors

    Author : Marcus Johansson; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; social factors; metacognitive judgments; frequency judgments; Realism; confidence judgments; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Theoretical accounts and models of calibration typically explain the degree of realism (validity) in confidence and frequency judgments in terms of different cognitive and methodological factors. The present thesis demonstrates that also social factors are of importance for the degree of realism in these types of metacognitive judgments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Metacognitive Aspects of Learning : What Influences Magnitude and Accuracy of Ease-of-Learning Judgments?

    Author : Andreas Jemstedt; Fredrik U. Jönsson; Timo Mäntylä; Veit Kubik; Bennett L. Schwartz; Matthew Rhodes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; ease-of-learning judgments; judgments of learning; metacognition; monitoring; processing fluency; learning; memory; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : To learn efficiently, many situations require people to judge what will be easy or difficult to learn, or how well it has been stored in memory. These metacognitive judgments are important to understand because they most likely guide how people behave when they learn, and consequently how much they learn. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Cognitive Basis of Joint Probability Judgments : Processes, Ecology, and Adaption

    Author : Joakim Sundh; Peter Juslin; Jörg Rieskamp; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : When navigating an uncertain world, it is often necessary to judge the probability of a conjunction of events, that is, their joint probability. The subject of this thesis is how people infer joint probabilities from probabilities of individual events. READ MORE

  5. 5. Is the Intuitive Statistician Eager or Lazy? : Exploring the Cognitive Processes of Intuitive Statistical Judgments

    Author : Marcus Lindskog; Anders Winman; Peter Juslin; Klaus Fiedler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Lazy intuitive statistician; Eager intuitive statistician; Intuitive statistics; Sampling model; Numerical cognition; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Numerical information is ubiquitous and people are continuously engaged in evaluating it by means of intuitive statistical judgments. Much research has evaluated if people’s judgments live up to the norms of statistical theory but directed far less attention to the cognitive processes that underlie the judgments. READ MORE
