  1. 6. Searches for Particle Dark Matter : Dark stars, dark galaxies, dark halos and global supersymmetric fits

    Author : Pat Scott; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Jan Conrad; Dan Hooper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dark matter; supersymmetry; gamma rays; dwarf galaxies; stellar evolution; cosmological perturbations; phase transitions; statistical techniques; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Cosmology; Kosmologi; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik; Formation and development of stars; Stjärnors bildning och utveckling; High energy astrophysics; Högenergiastrofysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : The identity of dark matter is one of the key outstanding problems in both particle and astrophysics. In this thesis, I describe a number of complementary searches for particle dark matter. READ MORE

  2. 7. Shipborne geophysical study of an Ordovician-Silurian carbonate platform, Fårö - Hiiumaa area, northeastern Baltic Sea

    Author : Igor Tuuling; Jan Bergström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Historical Geology and Paleontology; historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Abstract : The lithological-stratigraphical subdivision, the internal structure and the present relief of the Lower Paleozoic bedrock sequence was investigated by means of high resolution shallow marine seismic reflection profiling in the northeastern Baltic Sea.The Cambrian, as well as the lowermost Silurian layers, show rapidly changing lithologies and thicknesses and provide no trans-Baltic seismic reflectors. 3. 8. Observations of nearby Galaxy Clusters with the Fermi Large Area Telescope : Towards the first Gamma Rays from Clusters

    Author : Stephan Zimmer; Jan Conrad; Lars Bergström; Torsten Enßlin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxy Clusters; Fermi-LAT; γ rays; Dark Matter; Cosmic Rays; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Galaxy clusters are the most massive bound systems known in the Universe and are believed to have formed through large scale structure formation. They host relativistic cosmic-ray (CR) populations and are gravitationally bound by large amounts of Dark Matter (DM), both providing conditions in which high-energy gamma rays may be produced either via CR interactions with the intracluster medium or through the annihilation or decay of DM particles. 4. 9. The absorption of laser light by rough metal surfaces

    Author : David Bergström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Produktionsutveckling; Manufacturing Systems Engineering;

    Abstract : In Laser Material Processing of metals, an understanding of the fundamental absorption mechanisms plays a vital role in determining the optimum processing parameters and conditions. The absorptance, which is the fraction of the incident laser light which is absorbed, depends on a number of different parameters. READ MORE

  5. 10. Words in school : A study of vocabulary learning support in the Swedish EFL classroom

    Author : Denise Bergström; Cathrine Norberg; Marie Nordlund; Pia Sundqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; English as a foreign language; vocabulary learning; teacher cognition; materials development; teaching materials; English and Education; Engelska med didaktisk inriktning;

    Abstract : Vocabulary is a central but difficult aspect of learning English. EFL students face a considerable challenge in acquiring a vocabulary sufficient for communication, which means knowing many words and having a deep and varied knowledge of them. READ MORE
