  1. 16. Haptic and visual simulation of material cutting process : a study focused on bone surgery and the use of simulators for education and training

    Author : Magnus G. Eriksson; Jan Wikander; Ingela Nyström; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; surgical simulation; virtual reality; haptic feedback; surgical training; medical simulators; metrics; 3D visualization; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : A prototype of a haptic and virtual reality simulator has been developed for simulation of the bone milling and material removal process occurring in several operations, e.g. temporal bone surgery or dental milling. The milling phase of an operation is difficult, safety critical and very time consuming. READ MORE

  2. 17. Haptic Milling Simulation in Six Degrees-of-Freedom : With Application to Surgery in Stiff Tissue

    Author : Magnus G. Eriksson; Jan Wikander; Dwight Meglan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surgical simulation; Virtual reality; Haptic feedback; Surgical training; Medical simulators; 3D visualization; Six degrees-of-freedom; Bone milling;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis describes a substantial part of the design of a prototypical surgical training simulator. The results are intended to be applied in future simulators used to educate and train surgeons for bone milling operations. READ MORE

  3. 18. Modelling and Experimental Verification of Direct Drive Wave Energy Conversion : Buoy-Generator Dynamics

    Author : Mikael Eriksson; Mats Leijon; Jan Isberg; Arne Wolfbrandt; Kim Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Wave energy; Potential wave theory; Linear generator; Simulations; Experiments; Point absorber; FEM; Equivalent circuit theory; Teknisk fysik; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on development of models and modelling of a wave energy converter in operation. Through the thesis linear potential wave theory has been used to describe the wave-buoy interaction. The differences lie in the generator models, in the simplest model the generator is a mechanical damper characterized by a damping factor. READ MORE

  4. 19. Stable Numerical Methods with Boundary and Interface Treatment for Applications in Aerodynamics

    Author : Sofia Eriksson; Jan Nordström; Gunilla Kreiss; Thomas Hagstrom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; summation by parts; simultaneous approximation term; accuracy; stability; finite difference methods; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : In numerical simulations, problems stemming from aerodynamics pose many challenges for the method used. Some of these are addressed in this thesis, such as the fluid interacting with objects, the presence of shocks, and various types of boundary conditions. READ MORE

  5. 20. Critical Infrastructure at the Dawn of a Techno-Organizational Shift : Accountability and Public-Private Governance

    Author : Lindy Newlove-Eriksson; Thomas Sandberg; Jan Hallenberg; Staffan Furusten; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Accountability; Critical Infrastructure; Public-Private Governance; Industriell ekonomi och organisation; Industrial Economics and Management;

    Abstract : How public-private governance affects accountability for safety in the realm of critical infrastructure is the focus of this doctoral thesis. Case studies of previously under-researched crises and their cascading affects across infrastructures and governance systems, comparative analysis of public-private governance (PPG) of infrastructures such as space and urban rail junctions, and analysis of wider sets of policies and doctrine pertaining to critical infrastructures and their governance are presented.
