  1. 16. Clinical, epidemiological and immunological aspects of Lyme borreliosis with special focus on the role of the complement system

    Author : Anna J Henningsson; Jan Ernerudh; Pia Forsberg; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Bo-Eric Malmvall; Lars Hagberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lyme borreliosis; neuroborreliosis; clinical; epidemiology; inflammation; complement; cytokine; chemokine;

    Abstract : Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. The infection is caused by spirochetes belonging to the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex, and it is transmitted to humans by ticks. READ MORE

  2. 17. Immune regulation at the foetal-maternal interface; implications for healthy and complicated pregnancies

    Author : Robert Lindau; Jan Ernerudh; Maria Jenmalm; Kristina Nilsson-Ekdahl; Petra Arck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : For a successful pregnancy, the maternal immune system must acquire tolerance towards the paternal antigens present in the semi-allogeneic foetus. This tolerance is mainly established locally at the foetal-maternal interface, where foetally-derived trophoblasts invade the maternal endometrium (called decidua during pregnancy) and come in close proximity to maternal immune cells. 3. 18. Epidemiological and Ecological Studies of Tick-borne Encephalitis Virus

    Author : Pontus Lindblom; Per-Eric Lindgren; Pia Forsberg; Mats Haglund; Jan Ernerudh; Sarah E Randolph; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Ticks are blood-sucking parasites that are an inconvenience for both humans and animals. The tick by itself is normally harmless unless they attack in excessive numbers. READ MORE

  4. 19. Immunological Mechanisms and Natalizumab Treatment in Multiple Sclerosis : Studies on lymphocytes, inflammatory markers and magnetic resonance spectroscopy

    Author : Johan Mellergård; Magnus Vrethem; Jan Ernerudh; Charlotte Dahle; Sten Fredrikson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), and a frequent cause of neurological disability among young adults. In addition to focal inflammatory demyelinated lesions, diffuse white matter pathology as well as a neurodegenerative component with accumulating axonal damage and gliosis have been demonstrated and contribute to MS disease characteristics. 5. 20. Regulatory T cells in human pregnancy

    Author : Jenny Mjösberg; Jan Ernerudh; Göran Berg; Anna Rudin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : During pregnancy, fetal tolerance has to be achieved without compromising the immune integrity of the mother. CD4+CD25highFoxp3+ regulatory cells (Tregs) have received vast attention as key players in immune regulation. However, the identification of human Tregs is complicated by their similarity to activated nonsuppressive T cells. READ MORE
