  1. 1. Radioluminescence : A simple model for fluorescent layers - analysis and applications

    Author : Jan Lindström; Åsa Carlsson Tedgren; Eva Lund; Michael Sandborg; Ioannis Kandarakis; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A phosphor or scintillator is a material that will emit visible light when struck by ionising radiation. In the early days of diagnostic radiology, it was discovered that the radiation dose needed to get an image on a film, could be greatly reduced by inserting a fluorescent layer of a phosphor in direct contact with the film. 3. 3. Radioluminescence : A simple model for fluorescent layers

    Author : Jan Lindström; Eva Lund; Michael Sandborg; Gudrun Alm-Carlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Extrinsic efficiency; extinction factor; radioluminescence; modelling; Monte Carlo; optical attenuation; optimisation; particle size; phosphor; scintillator; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to present a simple model for the radiation to light conversion processes in fluorescent layers as an aid in future developments and applications. Optimisation between sensitivity and spatial resolution for fluorescent layers in digital radiology is a delicate task where the extrinsic efficiency for various phosphors needs to be established for varying parameters. 4. 4. Shell repair as a response to attempted predation in some Palaeozoic and younger gastropods

    Author : Anna Lindström; John S. Peel; Jan Ove R. Ebbestad; Euan N. K. Clarkson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Gastropoda; predation; shell morphology; shell repair; Palaeozoic; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : Traces of unsuccessful predatory attacks can be found in the hard parts of shell-bearing organisms as repaired shell injuries and are often preserved in the fossil record. These repaired shell injuries can help to deduce the relationship between predator and prey in the past. READ MORE

  5. 5. Burnout in parents of chronically ill children

    Author : Caisa Lindström; Jan Åman; Annika Lindahl Norberg; Agneta Anderzén Carlsson; Carina Sparud Lundin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Burnout; long-term stress; parents; children; chronic illness; T1DM; IBD; intervention group; Family Medicine; Allmänmedicin;

    Abstract : Parents of children with a chronic disease are usually highly involved in their child’s treatment and may be affected by the heavy demands and constant stress. This can increase the risk of developing burnout, which is an individual reaction to long-term stress consisting of symptoms associated with emotional exhaustion, as well as physical and cognitive fatigue.
