  2. 2. Diatoms in Lake Duluti : Tracking Environmental Variability in Northern Tanzania during the Past 1000 Years

    Author : Helena Öberg; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Karin Holmgren; Jan Risberg; Robert Marchant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleolimnology; Tanzania; Diatoms; Climate change; Crater lake; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The tropics are the regions which are least understood climatically and new data on past climate variability is necessary for reliable future modeling of climate change. This thesis contributes with new paleoenvironmental information from a small crater lake in northern Tanzania and provides an additional link between the integrated history of climate, environment and socioeconomic variability in tropical Africa. 3. 3. Dansgaard-Oeschger cycles and Heinrich events in western Europe - A diatom perspective

    Author : Linda Ampel; Barbara Wohlfarth; Jan Risberg; Sherilyn Fritz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dansgaard-Oescher cycles; Heinrich events; MIS 3 and 2; diatoms; Les Echets; France; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Quarternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : The last glacial period was characterised by several abrupt climatic shifts referred to as Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) cycles and Heinrich events. These shifts were most frequent between 60,000 and 20,000 years before present coinciding with Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 3 and 2. READ MORE

  4. 4. Linking lake variability, climate, and human activity in Basotu, Tanzania

    Author : Lindsey Higgins; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Jan Risberg; Sarah Davies; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tanzania; crater lake; climate change; land-use change; water resources; environmental variability; diatoms; paleolimnology; chronology; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Paleoenvironmental investigations establish important baseline knowledge of the natural variability of lake systems, to better understand human impacts on the landscape, and the effects of climate change on water resources. By combining long-term environmental history with investigations into modern land use patterns and climatological events, a wider perspective can be reached that has practical applications in water governance. 5. 5. Holocene environmental changes and climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean : Multiproxy sediment records from the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece

    Author : Christos Katrantsiotis; Stefan Wastegård; Rienk Smittenberg; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Sherilyn Fritz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mediterranean; Greece; Peloponnese; Holocene; sediments; diatoms; n-alkanes; stable isotopes; tectonics; climate variability; monsoons; NAO; NCP; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents multiproxy reconstructions of the mid to late Holocene climate and environmental changes in the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece. The combined dataset consists of diatom, biomarker and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) elemental data in radiocarbon-dated sediment cores taken from the Agios Floros fen and the Gialova Lagoon in SW Peloponnese and the Ancient Lake Lerna in NE Peloponnese.
