  1. 1. Numerical studies of current profile control in the reversed-field pinch

    Author : Jon-Erik Dahlin; Jan Scheffel; Roberto Paccagnella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reversed-Field Pinch; RFP; Current Profile Control; CPC; DEBS; DEBSP; active control; feedback; MHD.; Fusion; Fusion;

    Abstract : The Reversed-Field Pinch (RFP) is one of the major alternatives for realizing energy production from thermonuclear fusion. Compared to alternative configurations (such as the tokamak and the stellarator) it has some advantages that suggest that an RFP reactor may be more economic. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coil Design and Related Studies for the Fusion-Fission Reactor Concept SFLM Hybrid

    Author : Anders Hagnestål; Olov Ågren; Vladimir Moiseenko; Ladislav Bardos; Jan Scheffel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion; Fission; Hybrid reactor; Actinides; Mirror Machine; Quadrupolar mirror; Coils; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : A fusion-fission (hybrid) reactor is a combination of a fusion device and a subcritical fission reactor, where the fusion device acts as a neutron source and the power is mainly produced in the fission core. Hybrid reactors may be suitable for transmutation of transuranic isotopes in the spent nuclear fuel, due to the safety margin on criticality imposed by the subcritical fission core. READ MORE

  3. 3. Time Spectral Methods - Towards Plasma Turbulence Modelling

    Author : Kristoffer Lindvall; Jan Scheffel; Carl Sovinec; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion; Turbulence; Micro-instabilities; Time-spectral; Navier-Stokes; MHD; Weiland model; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Energy comes in two forms; potential energy and kinetic energy. Energyis stored as potential energy and released in the form of kinetic energy. This process of storage and release is the basic strategy of all energy alternatives in use today. This applies to solar, wind, fossil fuels, and the list goes on. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pressure driven instabilities in the reversed-field pinch : numerical and theoretical studies

    Author : Ahmed Akram Mirza; Jan Scheffel; Roberto Paccagnella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion plasma; thermonuclear; Reversed-field pinch; resistive MHD; resistive g modes; thermal conduction; the boundary value theory;

    Abstract : According to classical linearized resistive magnetohydrodynamics theory, pressuredriven modes are unstable in the reversed-field pinch (RFP) due to unfavorable magnetic field line curvature. The result is based on the assumption of an adiabatic energy equation where anisotropic thermal conduction effects are ignored as compared to convection and compression. READ MORE
